Liberals and conservatives overwhelmingly support a constitutional amendment that would effectively overturn the Supreme Court’s seminal campaign finance decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, according to a new study from the University of Maryland and nonpartisan research group Voice of the People

Three-fourths of survey respondents — including 66 percent of Republicans and 85 percent of Democrats — back a constitutional amendment outlawing Citizens United.

The study also indicates that most Americans — 88 percent overall — want to reduce the influence large campaign donors wield over lawmakers at a time when a single congressional election may cost tens of millions of dollars.

David Keating, president of the Institute for Free Speech, a conservative nonprofit, questioned the survey’s findings.

“If Americans knew that repealing Citizens United would allow Congress to censor critics and make it more difficult to defeat corrupt incumbents then they’d be less likely to support it going away,” Keating said. “It’s typical for academics to tout biased polls with questions that try to undermine support for free speech."

Isn't that what Donald Trump tried to do and is still doing it.

Now that is funny.

But factual. It's so sad how many people do not even understand the law that was overturned or this ruling. The law never stopped corporations from donating to politicians.

Liberals want to stop money going to Republicans but they sure as hell don't want money from Liberal special interest going to the Democrats.

Like money from billionaires like Soros or Zuckenberg or the UAW or the filthy Teacher's Unions.

not prior to the decision on citizen united.

Wrong….all dark money should be banned from our political process.

I'm sort of torn on the issue but looking at what has transpired since CU was upheld by SCOTUS I'd not be sorry to see it go. Since John Roberts had a hand in it it needs to be reviewed.

Bear in mind, at the time, it was the same SCOTUS that thought it was a real good idea to allow local governments to take a person's property through eminent domain and sell it to a developer and that was why within a couple years afterwards you saw a whole raft of new state laws banning the practice.

Oh and let's not forget Halfrican Care being allowed to continue because SCOTUS up and decided it was a tax when The Halfrican declared time and again that it wasn't a tax.

Libs aren't thinking here. To prohibit corporations from articulating any political opinion would crush them.

Twitter and Facebook are part of corporations. Ditto with New York Times, CNN, CBS, NBC, Washington Post.

To require all of their voices to stay neutral would leave Americans to discussing politics among ourselves in our churches, cocktail lounges, taverns and tap rooms without their input.

Libs would get crushed.

Take a Xanax. Election fraud is a proven lie.
The filthy Democrats usually raise more money from specail interest groups (including billionaires and Wall Street globalists) than the Republicans. They get all that union graft money and money from sleazy groups like pro abortion, big insurance government welfare queens and and anti gun nuts, just to mention a few.

Democrats sell out to special interest big time. If some kind of real campaign financing bill was passed the sonofabitches would find a way to channel fat cat money to the Democrat party bosses.

I hope you are not thinking that the gop has your personal best interests at heart either.....The various tentacles of the US Chamber of Commerce buy gop politicians just the same as the dems get bought by their flavors of special interest groups.

Publicly funded elections would allow common people from both sides to have a much better shot at winning.

Interesting idea. I just wonder how much extra in taxes Libs would be willing to pay to fund 2024 Trump commercials on Hannity and Bongino's programs?
