In the abstract it is not unreasonable to argue that employers are NOT obliged to pay a living wage.....but you cannot eat abstract...if someone is already giving up 40-60 hrs per week, where are they to be expected to find the additional resources they need to avoid destitution?

Companies have absorbed increases in the cost of land, buildings, equipment, rent, utilities and raw materials, but they haven't increased labour costs in over 30 years.
Wages as a percentage of costs, are at the same level as they were in the Guilded Age. Since Reagan and the Republicans took on the unions, labour has made no monetary gains, and has gone backwards in terms of the buying power of their money.
You, of course, blame the workers, because the Republicans have been scapegoating the victims of their policies since the beginning.
