... And not a mandate from your "god".
Cooperation and ethics evolved naturally. Because they promote survival.
Yep. We see all of it in our ape cousins, too, to lesser degrees.

??If an alpha wolve is ready to die for another wolve this promotes survival? (By the way: So called human "alpha wolves" normally don't do so!)
You see it even in animals without intelligence to speak of. Morality promotes communal survival.Yep. We see all of it in our ape cousins, too, to lesser degrees.
How did you equate C.S. Lewis explaining his rationale for his conversion with condemning those for not following his religion?![]()
Zone1 - Atheism Has No Basis for the Idea of Good or Evil, Just or Unjust
CS Lewis on his conversion to Christianity. He says in Mere Christianity: But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was bad and...www.usmessageboard.com
The thread title lays it out. It implies that atheists are amoral. We see threads like this over and over again. Some religious people are insistent that atheists are, by default, bad people. How did you equate C.S. Amoral does not mean immoral. The thread title lays it out. It implies that atheists are amoral. We see threads like this over and over again. Some religious people are insistent that atheists are, by default, bad people.
Whatever. What's your point?Amoral does not mean immoral.
Right! The Catholic church stopped being amoral when it decided that it had to accept Darwinian evolution, due to pressure applied by modern science.Amoral does not mean immoral.
How does creation affect how you live your life and behave towards friends, family, and community? How does not knowing precisely how creation came about affect your relationship with God?Right! The Catholic church stopped being amoral when it decided that it had to accept Darwinian evolution, due to pressure applied by modern science.
But then walked their position back by stating that believing anything between Genesis and evolution was acceptable to believe. The CC has granted their flock the permission to live a lie.
It's just still not established which position is the lie and which is the truth.
In order to repair the damage the CC maintains that both are true! Who is doing the lying?
People of faith who know atheists do not believe atheists are amoral or immoral. Nor do atheists who know people of faith insist that those who believe are only good because they fear hell. The thread title lays it out. It implies that atheists are amoral. And yet we get treated to threads here --and many posters within -- saying exactly that on a regular basis.People of faith who know atheists do not believe atheists are amoral or immoral.
Do the people who start the threads know any atheists? Or, are they speaking theory? And yet we get treated to threads here --and many posters within -- saying exactly that on a regular basis.
How do I square this with your claim?
They say it right to atheists on this board, and in general.Do the people who start the threads know any atheists? Or, are they speaking theory?
Exactly.People of faith who know atheists do not believe atheists are amoral or immoral. Nor do atheists who know people of faith insist that those who believe are only good because they fear hell.
Not sure what you mean.Try this question: Are you satisfied with your status quo?
My point was amoral doesn't mean immoral.Whatever. What's your point?
MkayI haven't seen anyone condemning atheists for not believing in God.
Be sure to copy me the next time it happens to you, MkayMkay![]()
You earned itNo offense but I'm not really seeing any logic here. You'd like to think your atheism is only limited to one single narrow belief but I say it affects every part of your being. Specifically how you view religion in general and Christianity specifically. Same goes for how you see Christians. From what I can see you have a pretty poor opinion of both.
