How many dogshit candidates got elected for promising people pensions they couldn't afford then stealing the money for other things? Government pensions are obscene and everyone who was ever involved in inflating them is a money launderer. We sure as hell don't want to use this crisis to sneak in state bailouts. You reap what you sow. Pay your own effin bills or lower your benefits. Just leave responsible states out of it.
When I was a kid, every job offered a pension to workers after 25 years service. My mother's biggest argument against my father buying the restaurant was that he was only 5 years away from his pension at the factory where he had worked since the war.
By the time Reagan was done, pensions in the private sector were a thing of the past. Now, the only workers left with pensions are civil servants, and the right wants those to disappear too. Everyone should have a pension with long service. Especially since the workers are now so poorly paid that they need government assistance to keep food on the table. How can you save for retirement when you can't afford to eat today?
Just one of the many, many ways the Republican economy screws the workers in favour of the shareholers.
