There is something to this. Corruption is endemic in politics, always grimly with us, but a sense of humor is uncommon. We love and tend to forgive (for awhile anyway) the guys that make us laugh. Ross Perot, for instance. Dennis Kucinich. I was in Cleveland once when he was running for re-election and a bus had a sign on its side, DENNIS! and that's all. That's all that was needed. Everyone knew who he was.

A few of them do. Collins also voted with Romney. Why can't our party have unity like the Democrat party? Every Democrat voted for witnesses. We can never do that with our party, because these phony Republicans sneak their way in.

The chairman of CPAC announced that Utah Sen. Mitt Romney is "formally not invited" to the conservative group's annual conference this year.


Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union, said Romney is not allowed at the event after the Utah Republican voted in favor of summoning witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Romney was one of two Republicans who joined 47 Democrats in supporting the motion, which failed to pass on Friday.

"BREAKING: The 'extreme conservative' and Junior Senator from the great state of Utah, @SenatorRomney is formally NOT invited to #CPAC2020," Schlapp wrote in a tweet, which featured a photo of a troubled-looking Romney.

As I said the other day Romney should make it official and switch parties to Democrat then moved his useless ass to California because the mormons won't have him anymore. San Fagcisco would better suit the asshole where there'll be more of his kind around like Pelosi, Harris etc. Or maybe LA where he can hob-nob with Baggy Lips Waters and Schiff for brains.

I'd say he's more of an Independent these days. He still believes in the traditional republican platform which the trump republicans no longer believe in.

Trafficant is a good example. He was corrupt and the Democrats got rid of him. Trump is 100 times worse than Trafficant ever was and Republicans rally around him. Not only rally around Trump but throw the Constitution out the door to defend him as well. Thanks for bringing Trafficant up.

Corruption is a requirement to be a Democrat politican. Trafficant got booted because he was like our Romney or McCain, just much more animated. He went against his party all the time by preaching common sense and doing what was right for the country instead of the party.

I never used the word victim. What I said is that Trafficant should have hired a good lawyer, and he would have likely never went to prison. It was partially his fault. Trump isn't a victim either. He's just trying to surface corruption but the party of corruption took this impeachment route in effort to indirectly tell Trump to quit looking into their corruption.

I don't think this is strategically smart for CPAC when the republican party is losing many of it's moderates. They should have let the impeachment fade into the background and said nothing. Why alienate voters when you don't have to. Makes no sense to me.

I don't think they are pissing off anybody. Romney has been a problem for many years. Even if he switched parties, I don't think it would hurt Republicans one bit, especially if we got a real Republican to take his place.

What are "real" republicans? Why can't the republican party have diverse ideology while still supporting the party platform? Don't you think it's important to have representatives that can work across the aisle. To require all members be in lock step doesn't seem like it would promote democracy but rather the opposite. That's kinda scary.

This is a very insightful post, IMO. Romney is like Hillary --- they are both just so ANGRY that they lost and Trump won. It seems to undermine their whole self-esteem somehow and they continue to fight what happened. Trump didn't even defeat Romney -- he just managed to do better and win the presidency, and Mitt has gone all weird on us fighting that. He's been fighting Trump since Trump first started looking successful: it's malignant jealousy.
