That is precisely what is going on with fire departments, police departments, public water and sewer, the TVA for power. And of course, the US military. Democratic Socialism is very different. First, it accepts the Socialist aspects of the aforementioned entities, but it does depend on free markets to determine production in most areas. What it is known for is a robust safety net, including single payer healthcare.

Look, the free market system is pretty awesome, but for it to work there has to be something that in the legal field is called "equal consideration" That is really not the case in health care. Take this pill or die--where is the equal consideration. Have this procedure or die, again, where is the legal consideration. It isn't the case with the energy sector either.
