Millennials choosing to be DINKs (dual-income-no-kids) could push GDP down by as much as 4%

So you got two people, no kids and both full time. Wouldn't that be more productive? Ok....I suppose if they don't produce kids then the future is in question.

If the productive reproduce it's more likely than not that their kids will do the same.

Now since the productive are bucking that trend a bit the state sees their ability to tax fleece the next generation as being diminished....That upsets a lot of .gov grift rice bowls.

The productive are more and more saying "hey wait a minute
You want both of us working at max capacity all day long thren having to raise kids too"? That model is no longer as attractive nor doable.

Ahhh....makes sense

Despite its misleading title, the article is actually addressing the long term effects of fewer people in the workforce. As fewer children are born and the general population ages into retirement, fewer productive people will be available to support the GDP.
And that's where automation comes in. The simple fact is we need fewer workers.

That only works for so long. Eventually you will need an army of repair techs to keep the automation going.

Vastly fewer than the machines they maintain though. That's the point.

Maybe we should go back to treating women as property ... she's to obey her husband, so spread them wide honey ... she has no business outside the home, so all the kids keep her busy ...

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation" ...

We've QUADRUPULED our population since then ... do we want to quadruple our population again? ... a billion and a half here in the United States? ... that would certainly raise GDP ... just that per capita incomes will crash ... good work, Fitz, good work indeed ...

I was working repairing Apple II computers back in the mid-1980's ... corporation send down a memo to throw away any defective motherboards and just put a new one in ...

Much cheaper making a new board than repairing a broken one ... technology allows us to be a "throw-away" species ...

Then why import millions of people from other countries?
That's an excellent question. One I have been trying to get an answer to for years.

That makes no sense at all.

Maybe we are looking at a generation that has the good sense not to burden themselves for a quarter of their lives.

Don't worry, you will have plenty of Hispanics and Hattians to try to teach.

I'm almost at retirement age. Children are often a lot of work but not a "burden".

Who owns the robots? ... somebody's making a profit here and Social Security taxes profit ...
No, SS taxes INCOME. The robot owners will pay a corporate tax, the robot manufacturers will pay an excise tax.

Just like companies do today for the things they make, and use, and they will also get to depreciate them as well.

May I direct your attention to Schedule C ... line 31 ... that says to enter PROFIT on line 2 of the Schedule SE ... have you never filled out a Schedule SE before? ... serious question, it's a part of owning a business and how business owners participate in what is generally a payroll deduction tax ... without the headaches of incorporation ...

Corporations don't collect SS ... why should they be paying SS taxes? ... SS is for individual human beings ... so, only human beings pay SS taxes, that's always been the case ... a chainsaw never gets retirement benefits ...

Robot owners pay corporation tax? ... robot manufacturers pay excise tax? ... but the robots themselves don't pay anything, they themselves don't fill an income tax return ... and so they don't pay SS taxes either ...

Social security taxes paid by individuals is based on their income.

Robots are EQUIPMENT. They are treated the same way as a deep frier.
