Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, who represents northeastern Wisconsin, made national headlines this week for voting against impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the southern border.
Gallagher's move helped shut down Republicans' efforts to impeach the Biden Cabinet official — three other Republicans joined Democrats in voting against it.
In explaining his vote, Gallagher said it would "set a dangerous new precedent that will be weaponized against future Republican administrations. It will only further pry open the Pandora's box of perpetual impeachment. We can't have people thrown out of office for being incompetent. Getting a job in the Federal government is like getting tenor at a college as a college professor. You can go bat shit crazy as a college professor calling for the overthrow of a white American government at all costs and sing gas the Jews as you chase Jewish students into attics at the local university and no one cares. Yea, you still keep your job anyway."

"Besides", said Gallagher, "If we start impeaching people for not doing their job, who would be left in government? No one has been impeached like this in 200 years, and in all that time on one ever deserved to lose their job cuz they are just special folk is all. They are not like you little people who might get fired for not doing your job, these are essential as where you are not. You remember essential personnel during Covid don't you? That means only WalMart and abortion clinics stay open as the government closes down everyone else because they are not as essential."

This guy as a bright political career ahead of him.

"Incompetent" would be three steps up for Mayorkis....He's deliberately derelict and refusing to do his job.

I find Gallagher's argument rather shallow

The fact is that, even though cabinet members are supposed to fulfill the mandates or the agenda of the president they serve, the president himself is violating validly-enacted federal law.

In not doing his job which... the primary job the president has is to PROTECT America and when he doesn't do that, obviously SOMEONE has to..

Yay, Governor Greg Abbott, doing the job of governor AND the job the despicable DC gummit refuses to do!

I'm SO glad this lawless so and so got impeached. It's too bad it only happened by one vote, but oh well. I'm happy justice has been done.

The Senate will likely not give a rip about justice, but again... VERY glad it happened. It has only happened ONE other time in history, I hear
