The inevitable civil war between the different Islamic factions, which required the iron-fisted dictator Saddam Hussein to prevent, was predicted while Operation Iraqi Freedom was being planned.

Dubya's need to be a hero started the useless Middle East Wars. Congress, of which most members serve only the financial interests of the ruling billionaire class, so, have had no desire, or permission, to end the U.S. Middle East presence. The unending military presence has been a constant part of the lives of Muslims 25 years of age and younger. So, any American surprised by the hatred created in these young Muslims by U.S. occupying forces should imagine how life in the U.S. would be if a supposedly protective Islamic military moved in and took over running this country.

No one can change the Islamic extremists' hatred of the West for "Westernizing" Middle East countries. Not Clinton, and certainly not Dubya.

But, Dubya, Cheney, and other influential GOP hawks were determined to force a regime change in Iraq. Any rational person knew Saddam Hussein was a vicious dictator, but his atrocities against his own people did keep the different Islamic factions' hatred for each other from exploding into civil war.

So, while Muslims were killed by Saddam Hussein, it was nothing compared to the death toll the constant civil war would have brought to the Iraqi people. Not the best solution, but one that worked for a society most Americans do not understand to this day.

Unfortunately, it was that same lack of understanding of Islamic society that enabled Dubya to lie and convince certain Americans it was the United States' duty to "Westernize" Iraq, and save them from their oppressive religion, enforced violently by Saddam Hussein.
