Given your own perfect scenarios what, if anything do you expect to change after the presidential election?

Given your own perfect scenarios what, if anything do you expect to change after the presidential election?

Someone smarter in the white house. But if th repubs win, not much else changes.

If the dem win, better relations with the rest of the world... more encouragement of energy efficiency; more people with health coverage; less corporate welfare... balanced budget; more intelligent international policy, generally. No one trying to take away my right to reproductive choice; no one making discriminating against gays public policy. Judges who know something about Constitutional Construction on the Federal Bench.

And that's just to start.

I'd be thrilled if the new president would lead on closing porous borders, increase legal immigration, be strong on WOT, and cut spending and taxes.

The top marginal rate for married couples, filing jointly, was cut from 70% to 50% by Reagan, and now stands at 35%. How much more should we explode the deficit and weaken the dollar?

This has enabled the wealthiest 1% to accumulate around 50% of the total wealth in this country. If you're among the bottom 90%, you are voting the wrong way.

Nothing will change. The media will still dictate who we like and don't like and filter and color the truth as they have in the past.

Nothing. The only possible change in entertainment will be if Jimmy Carter Jr tries to buck the system with his socialist idealism as his namesake did and finds himself isolated, without the support of even his own party.

Then we'll get to hear how that too is the fault of the right, and not because Obama's a kook.

Pffft ... you mean the Dems are going to bring back the Cold War? That's the last time we had "better relations with the rest of the world" -- when it needed us to protect its collective ass.

There will be no "more encouragement of energy efficiency." It will get the saem lip service it always has while energy company lobbyists line Democrat pockets the same as they do Republican ones.

There will be more people with health coverage if more people go and buy it.

No more corporate welfare. GMAFB. You mean like Clinton promised? As I have repeatedly stated and you Dems repeatedly ignore ... by the time any legislation gets through COngress, most if not all tax loopholes will remain for the wealthy and YOU and I are the ones that will get stuck footing the bill for any tax increase.

Balanced budget? Yeah, right.

The rest is just partisan fearmongering blather.

How could you forget 9/11? When we needed the rest of the world, and they rallied behind us?

After the attack, demonstrations of support for America were held in most Muslim countries, including Iran and the Palestinian Territory.

Pfffffffffffffft yourself.... we all have priorities. I am tired of peoplerunning this country who don't know how to appoint a freaking justice to the supreme court; who think there's such a thing as strict constructionism and are only happy when they're telling the rest of us what Jesus would do.

And to borrow a phrase I read elsewhere (I wish I could remember where), I don't want idiots running this country who believe in torture but not in evolution.

The economic policy over the last 7 years could be improved upon by my 10 year old son.

And better a cold war (which is a lot of bull) than the pointless waste of Bush's war.

fearmongering indeed.

Nothing's going to change. Sooner you figure that part out the sooner you can be pissed off about the system itself instead of continuing this political bickering which is exactly what they want. Keeps your mind off actually looking at them from any other than a partisan perspective.

But what is your response? Please re-read first paragraph above.

Priorities are nice, but wasted when they have nothing to do with reality.

I don't want idiots who believe in torture running this country either. If I am correct, the current GOP candidate sided with Democrats on the issue of torture, did he not? Nuff said on that one.

As far as evolution goes, you need to be more specific. Evolution is fact. Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a theory. Means it isn't fact. I have no problem with the former at all since anything not evolving is dying.

I really don't have a problem with the person running this country believing we descended from apes or some nonsensical "Big Bang" or whatever. Their religious beliefs have nothing to do with the job.

And apparently, only conservative religious beliefs register on your radar because Obama's relationship with his pastor is far and away more questionable than anyone else's in this campaign.

But thanks for playing.

I disagree that nothing's going to change because the first thing that gets changed is the Court stops getting messed up by the loonies.

that's a big change.

Again, you can't quite figure it out... I don't like Obama's pastor. BUT NOTHING JEREMIAH WRIGHT SAYS IS GOING TO BE IN LEGISLATION THAT EFFECTS ME!! Got it?!?!?!? McCain however traded my control over my body for the endorsement of a psychotic who says 9/11 happened because of gays; and another psychotic who says the U.S. exists to wage a Crusade against Muslims.

Gee...which do you think is more relevant to what goes on in this country?

I'll also tell you what I think. I don't think Barack Obama is a racist. I don't think he hates his mother (which is the only way *he* could possibly hate all whites). I don't think Rev Wrights's TWO (count 'em) TWO unacceptable sermons will form the basis of this country's national policy.

So you can talk about Wright and the GOP can run it's little Southern Strategy all it wants....

Get THIS: Obama attends Wrights church and has for 20 years. That means he has to agree with most of what Wright preaches. If he believes what Wright preaches then you better wake up to the fact it could VERY WELL end up in legislation.

McCain not believing in murdering unborn human beings means he sees it for what it actually is. That "control over my body" bullshit is just that .. bullshit.

However, fearmongering that he is somehow going to overturn Roe v Wade when no one else has is exactly that as well.

And agains, since you don't get it .... blah, blah blah to your Southern strategy bullshit. Just MORE fearmongering on your part.

I don't like Obama because he is a leftwing extremist. Period. I don't care if he's black and I don't care he squats when he pees. Completely irrelevant. It's the shit between his ears I have a problem with.

No one else did because Clinton was elected and he appointed Ginsburg and Breyer. Bush the Elected appointed Souter and then Thomas in his single term. Had he been re-elected and appointed another Thomas, Scalia or Alito, Roe v. Wade would be gone.

The benefit of destroying the GOP would not, IMHO, offset the tragedy of destroying the Constitution.

No it doesn't. That is the assumption you would like US to believe, but it isn't proven at all. More like the swiftboating.

This is just more smear shit. Which most does he agree with? What he said about religion or what he said on the edited sound bites that the right is playing? Does he agree with what Wright quoted from former ambasador Peck who served under Reagan?

I guess his denouncing those statements don't mean squat.

McCain accepts the support of a man who says New Orleans was hit because of the gay parade. So McCain must also believe this?

I know right now we lost our suplus, started and screwed up two wars, broke the FISA law multiple times, can't even attend one frigging funeral, jobs going south............all under our current leader.

No, just about anyone would be an improvement.

Wait a minute...Are you telling me you would support and listen to something YOU DIDN"T agree with for 20 damn years?

BULLSHIT! YOU ARE A LIAR!

NO ONE gives money to something they dont believe in!

Do you know what the money was given for? Was it given for a kids' charity? To help the poor? To pay Rev. Wright off to retire?

There are lots of reasons to pay money...including agreement with the Church, but not with the two sermons in question.

By the same token, don't you think if those type of statements were made on a regular basis over 20 years, they'd be playing 24/7 on the news? Instead, they have two OTT statements....

Even so, I'm more comfortable with Obama than with any person who associates himself with someone who says the U.S. exists to fight a crusade against Islam....

Kids charity.....help the poor???

The money went to the Church....period...

It would pretty naive to claim your tax money is spent on little old ladies for health care and not for the wars in Afgan. and Iraq.....same thing with donations to this 'cult'....

Obama should just tell the truth and admit that he did what every guy does in church - he slept.

Seriously, though, the more the GOP pounds Obama for this nonsense, the more he can say that they have nothing else to offer, and that they are afraid to campaign on their real goals of destroying Social Security, exporting jobs and stripping the Bill of Rights from the Constitution.

The question was not " disagree with someone" The question was " what is your perfect scenario" Perhaps you could actually participate in THAT manner?

Which is irrelevant. Congress can legislate it out of existence.

I disagree that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v Wade. You on the left just refuse to admit there is not enough support from the right to do so.

I have my view on abortion, and I might argue my personal POV on this board, but what's lost is the fact that in real life I consider someone else's decisions THEIRS, and so too the consequences. It's one thing to come on here and spout idealism and quite another to actually live it and believe in it.

IMO, the gay marriage amendment and its failure with a Republican Congress shows that most conservatives believe somewhat the same. If certain liberals would quit pointing to the extremes as the norms, that point is quite obvious.

It is my opinion, overturning Roe v Wade would suffer the same fate. If there is no legal/administrative reason to throw it out, I don't see it happening.

Whether abortion is right or wrong comes down to belief, and our law is supposed to be fair for all, even the misguided who allow semantics to fool them into believing something is not what it in fact is.

Leftwing extremists on the issue have just as much pure bullshit involved in their arguments as rightwing extremists do theirs.

What irks the shit out of me are people who I consider to be intelligent that can't even begin to see reality for what it is because they are so steeped in political propaganda.
