McConnell saw early on that even if Trump was RIGHT in what he was saying, (a) it could never be proven because of the lack of a meaningful paper trail for the dubious ballots, and (b) no one in the entire scenario would have legal standing to mount an effective challenge to the results. The unavoidable conclusion was that the protests and complaints would ultimately prove fruitless, and POLITICALLY DAMAGING.

Hence, since NOBODY can tell 45 to STFU, getting Barr on board with quashing the challenges would be very helpful to the party.

And of course, McConnell is more interested in the welfare of the Party than of Donaldus Maximus.

This makes perfect sense.
