Maybe this will surprise some of you given my progressive views on most things

Having BB sing in Spanish was the kind of self-inflicted mistake D's usually make. Really hard to believe the NFL made it.
It’s not just that he sang in Spanish but he does not have a good voice and the music sucked.

I have heard Latin Music, performers like Santana, Richie Valens, Jose Feliciano and enjoyed the music

I didn’t enjoy bad bunny

but IMO when there is an event as culturally iconic as Sunday's game is, a quintessentially American event viewed by tens of millions of people, the entertainment headliner should not perform in a foreign language.

Bad Bunny to be first artist performing at Super Bowl entirely in Spanish

Yes, Puerto Rico is an American territory. A terrific place to go for a vacation. However, the native tongue of Puerto Rican's is Spanish. And while the act in question had a very important visual component, most Americans had no idea what was being said. That's ludicrous.

I can't imagine any country having the main entertainment portion of the biggest single day event of the year be performed in a foreign language. Because is was a mistake to do so.

/——/ Go back to the late 1960s and see how the NFL used to be. Those were Superbowls.

You couldn't have noted this in one of the many other threads on the same thing?

Because Division was the strategic aim.
Project Chaos is all pervasive -- almost by definition .

And the very existence of Deep State implies Division .

Do you know what the NFL is?

Spanish isn't a "foreign language" in the USA. It is one of the founding languages.

There was only 3 SB games in the 60s. They were hardly the extravagant event we have today. The first two were blowouts by the Packers. Hardly great games.

I managed to watch about four minutes of it.
It looked fine, very music video. Looked like the stands were quite full for the performance.

Does the singer actually speak English? That may have been an issue.

For many years now the league has been undertaking efforts to broaden the National Football League internationally and so perhaps they saw a halftime show in Spanish as means to market to Hispanic countries. Anyways, I've no complaint as I never tune into the NFL championship's pre-game and halftime shows.

Even the Jets famous win was a blowout as the Jets led 16-0 and the Colts scored a meaningless 4th Qtr TD
Not many great SBs in the 70s either

There has been 60 super bowls.... one had a Spanish speaking halftime event. Bad Bunny was no more the speed of most of this board than Kendrick Lamar or Usher was, and they performed in English.

I think you can only do so many classic rock bands for the old peeps. Most of the popular halftime events are not classic rock bands. They are contemporaneous pop or rap/hip-hop.

The Super Bowl itself is getting more popular every year so recent halftimes have higher ratings

Oldies rock groups are in their 80s….played out

Does that mean we have to live with rap from now on?
There are other genres that can still perform
Give me a freaking Marching Band

Could be worse... One of my sons goes to mobbed DJ concerts (not sure if its called EDM but its just dance music remixed and digital sounds - i dont know)

The other goes to Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo...etc.. Coachella is Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, Karol G, and Anyma this spring. Had to look it up.

Not sure what bridges everyone.

I read an English translation of the Super Bowl halftime show. Much of it was pretty foul and could not be broadcast on network television.
