Justices don't rule on what people want, they rule on what the Constitution says. That's why SC justices are not elected like politicians.

As far as I can see, they did rule on behalf of the safety and security of people. In NY mostly only the cops and criminals have guns. The rest of the people are Fd because they have no way to protect themselves, and the criminals know it. In the future as more and more people are able to carry guns, it gives the criminals great concern if planning to attack an innocent. That's the way it should have always been.

As Justice Thomas said, there is no other right where you must prove to the government you are deserving of exercising such right before being allowed to have it.

This ruling (as Justice Kavanaugh pointed out) does not stop a state from having regulations or standards in which to carry a gun. All it says is that a citizen doesn't have to prove to government they are deserving of the right to bear arms. They can still have background checks, still require training, still have testing, still have a 21 year old age limit to carry, so those lowlifes at the homes of the justices would likely not be allowed to legally carry anyway.
