The transfer portal changes have lead to that more than the NIL money IMO but I get your point. If they have no NIL deal with the current school, why would they risk injury in a non-consequential bowl game. They enter the transfer portal and don't play. It's truly a combination of the two.
NIL gave Vanderbilt's quarterback another year of eligibility because he was denied extending his NIL deal to 2025. He sued and the courts ruled the NCAA had to give him another year while the case is sorted out, as he had already played 4 years, 2 in junior college. I am not sure how I feel about that as he beat my alma mater last season at NM State and this year at Vanderbilt. A third beat down may be in the future as he is very talented.
Agreed, but there were several successful college quarterbacks who returned to play college football after they finished their pro baseball careers. They are the exceptions rather than the rule. Their actual age doesn't seem to matter much. The transfer portal changes have lead to that more than the NIL money IMO but I get your point.
The ridiculousness of these guys playing into their mid 20's needs to stop.
I sure do. WVU is paying every player on the football team $40,000 starting next year as a base amount. UNC is reported to divide $20 million as part of the deal with Bill Belichick.I have apparently you dont know how it works.
The schools are absolutely paying these kids. At Tennessee, football ticket prices have been raised in order to cover this. They call it a talent fee. I have no idea why you persist in arguing this anyway. No they aren’t. The schools don’t pay anyone. The players are paid by an outside entity. That said they aren’t signing contracts like I described and that’s very unlikely to start because too many prospects don’t pan out and no one wants to be tied to paying a HS star who ends up not being as good as they predicted.
College football needs to end. Let the NFL pay for their own minor leagues, like other sports. The transfer portal has ruined college football.
