Marco Rubio: Medicare, Social Security ‘Weakened Us As People,’ Made Us Lazy

SocSecurity is broke and Medicare ended house calls and spiraled costs out of control just like it was supposed to

SS is broke? Prove it.

"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it" Barack "Social Security Really is Bankrupt" Obama, the Downgraded President

Socialist Insecurity is a Ponzi Scheme that would land its initiators in prison if it were introduced in the private sector.

As an investment for retirement security? A drunk, retarded monkey could get a better return on investment than is offered through the SSA...

Really? Well Prove it.

Add Medicaid and disablity payments to that, and over the cliff, we are.....JOBS!!!! It would help to have more ppl working to support all the programs that our politicians have put on our plates...

Americans may have certainly taken care of each other in the absence of formalized access to affordable health care, but that support did little to drastically ameliorate the fears and anxieties of seniors. As Ted Marmor explains in The Politics of Medicare, “The biggest fears included not being able to pay for care and risking turning to children or siblings for help, or it meant relying on the charitable attitude of the doctor or hospital. Most profoundly, it was the sense that illness or injury — bad enough themselves — could be disastrous for family finances unless you were lucky enough to have retiree coverage from a union or government plan.”

Indeed, prior to Medicare’s enactment in 1965, “about one-half of America’s seniors did not have hospital insurance,” “more than one in four elderly were estimated to go without medical care due to cost concerns,” and one in three seniors were living in poverty. Today, nearly all seniors have access to affordable health care and only about 14 percent of seniors are below the poverty line.

The could only go out if the government was able to borrow more, Madoff would still be in business if he could bring in new money

Theory X and Theory Y

Republicans are definitely Theory X types.

People tend to believe that other people are like themselves.

Yes... they do.

Those liberal policies let illegals run amuck!
Yeah, well he benefited from them.

How....? They did it legally.

His parents actually know what socialism and comunism bring. I know folks who came here from Cuba and they dont like what they see going on in DC.

Sup Infidel.

My family is from Cuba. In fact, I am the first generation of my family born in America.

My family knows what dictators bring not what socialism and communism bring. They bring a regime that rules with a gun to your head no matter the ideology. Not figuratively but literally. People in my family had a lot of power and influence prior to the revolution and they literally had guns put to their heads when the Castro regime was consolidating power there. Wisely they left everything behind and got the fuck out of there.

Please don't cheapen what my family had to go thru by drawing comparisons to what they experienced and the current state of DC.

...or maybe it's predicated on the belief that human beings are generally rational and when it comes to retirement planning they incorporate social security into their expected benefits. If you have someone subsidizing your retirement income, then you don't need to make as much or save as much money as you would otherwise. It's called common sense to most people.

So Americans are not only lazy, they are also stupid to be using failed capitalism.

Do you want to actually address what I said? I never mentioned anything about laziness or 'failed capitalism'. But you like to infer unrelated, unintended meaning in order to obfuscate, so I'm not suprised to get a response like that from you.

It was surely intended, just a little vague. American people are stupid to hang onto capitalism as they sink with it. Why should American workers be concerned with saving for retirements, when they can have full wage retirements? I understand your point, I am just not sure common sense dictates your reasoning, or shows me anything except a capitalist thinking person who actually thinks workers might be subsidizing their retirements. Most workers are living check to check, so I don't see that idea flying.

How in the hell can Social Security be broke when it currently has a $2.5 trillion surplus?

If that were true then why was Obama worried that he might not be able to send out Social Security checks if the debt ceiling wasn't raised?

Because until the Tea Party came along, being invested in US treasuries was considered the safest investment in the world.

You are crazy.

.

Yeah, he is crazy like a Fox, and missed the suplus amount by 20 Trillion.

When Peter Coy, the Bloomberg Businessweek Economics Editor, appeared this morning on "Washington Journal," he brought along a chart for his discussion of the magazine's cover article, "Why the Debt Crisis is Even Worse Than You Think." But, the chart, purported to show a national fiscal gap, did not match Coy's talking points. As Coy concluded commenting that cuts would be needed to Social Security and other entitlements, C-SPAN moderator Susan Swain pointed out that Coy's chart showed a long-term surplus for Social Security of $22 trillion. Coy confirmed as accurate her interpretation of the chart and, after some stumbling, admitted that, "The trust fund is not the crucial issue." Indeed, his own figures show that it is not an issue at all. So, why did he continue to insist that Social Security cuts are needed?.http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/29/1000366/-$22-trillion-Social-Security-surplus-revealed-on-C-SPAN

What makes Rubio's fantasy so shit laden is that in the days of yesteryear, if family/church/community had been doing an adequate job of taking care of the sick, the needy, and the elderly,

there would have been no incentive for Social Security and Medicare to come into existence.

The incentive was to keep people voting for Democrats

Don't bother. You'll just get more BS.

Anyone else notice that Lactater left his own thread after the above was posted?

He's such a damn dufus.

If we had defaulted, our assets would have had to go to paying the interest on loans. So yes, defaulting would have wiped out the SS coffers quickly.

Maybe that is what Rubio is wishing for since he claims these American programs make Americans lazy.

How dare he criticize the elderly and Americans after we welcomed his family with open arms.
