For Iran and the US it started with Ike. We've been waging asymmetrical warfare against them ever since the regime we backed and supplied for 25 years was overthrown in 79. They had become a regional power in the area covered by the Carter Doctrine. They were not a threat to the access to the worlds oil supplies. It was the greatest strategic blunder since Bush invaded Iraq on false pretenses. It might even prove to be a greater blunder than the Iraq invasion and occupation.
