I have the most bullshitious ISP on earth. Even at 22 degrees (F) it's dropping out. They keep giving me the song and dance excuse about "it's cold". No shit.

Lady at the local office today tried to tell me "the lines freeze". As if electrons "freeze". Perhaps her experience is in plumbing.

One of the techs who came out described how when the temp drops that far (it's been single-digits) the equipment gets more efficient (which makes sense) and then it overloads their amps.

Uh --- get more amps? Or put governors on the ones you have? Funny they didn't mind advising ME to get new equipment (which I did but nothing changed).

So tell me ---- is there no such thing as internet in Manitoba? Is Buffalo web-free in winter? Are there no downloads in Duluth? No surfing in Saskatchewan? No Googling in Green Bay? Because "it's cold"?

Wierd. I have /never/ had any issues with interweb's up north here in Alaska.

I have had a cat 6 cable hanging on the outside of my house to get interweb to one of the bedrooms for years, never a single problem with the connection; rain, shine, cold, or hot.

Live in rural MN north of Twin Cities. Internet comes from Midco covering Dakotas and parts of MN. Never had the issue you speak of.
Several years back major work was done to bury all communication lines underground along highway right of ways. All my utilities are buried. Older homes not so.

Obviously my ISP is either stupid or thinks its customers are. They try to tell us "the lines freeze", as if electrons are water.

The followup to this old thread is that they finally got their shit together and fixed the feed --- I watched it happen on my modem --- on the coldest day of the cold snap, which blows their "the lines freeze" excuse to smithereens. That was about a month ago and it stayed on. So yeah -- "the cold" my ass.

Finally they're surveying to run fiberoptic out here. They say it will be set up in a couple of months, but then they also say "lines freeze" so.... quem sabe.
