The slide locks back just after the 0:17 second mark and goes into battery again just before the 0:21 second mark. To be polite I’ll call it 3 seconds.

As a former competitive pistol shooter, and a range safety officer who shot and worked National level action pistol competitions for a decade… a 3 second reload is an eternity. Top level shooters do a slide-kick reload in roughly one second. Average shooters are in the 1.5-1.75 second range. Revolver shooters are generally in the 2.5-3.0 second range.

I will say this… the reload was smooth. Unfortunately he doesn’t appear to realize he’s empty for about a second before he even starts the reload.

You want to know if I would have shot at that moment? No. Not unless I saw the suspect attacking the woman with a knife. I am a private citizen, not a cop. And I would be charged with risking her life, as she was in the line of fire. He was on top of her.

I would have moved to my left before engaging, to reduce the odds of the victim being shot. Although that is said with minimal view from the video.

What is interesting to me is this. You guys are dumb. If you were half as smart as you think you are you could make a strong case that Ashli Babbitt really was murdered. Or at least raise real questions about the shooting.
