AUSTIN, Texas/TAIPEI (Reuters) - A Texan running a 3-D printed guns company who flew to Taiwan as police investigated an accusation he had sex with an underage girl was detained in Taipei on Friday and ordered to leave the island after his U.S. passport was annulled, officials said.

Cody Wilson, 30, was taken to immigration authorities in the capital by officers from Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to officials.


He was ordered to leave Taiwan because he no longer has a valid travel document, said Zhang Wen-xiu, a director of the international affairs and law enforcement division at Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency.

Zhang said Wilson was being held by the agency and that its officials were in talks with U.S. representatives in Taiwan concerning his repatriation.

The U.S. Marshals Service, which would likely be responsible for taking Wilson back to the United States, said in a statement it was aware of Wilson’s arrest and was “fully engaged with our international partners on this matter.”

You know, the problem was that you were trying to use conventional ammo in a 3d printed gun. Conventional ammo doesn't work in them, however, some guy has figured out how to make bullets that won't blow up the gun, and the custom ammo makes the gun almost reliable.

Now there are bullets that won't break your 3D printed gun

Eventually, though, Crumling figured it out. With a shell both thicker and longer than a traditional bullet, Crumling's ammo looks more like a shotgun shell than a bullet. That signature look, though, is the secret sauce. When the 3D gun's trigger is pulled and the hammer hits the back of the bullet, the gunpowder charge is ignited just as it would be in a regular gun. In this case, however, the bullet itself contains and channels the explosion, helping to protect the plastic housing of the 3D printed gun.

Actually, they are working on that as well. Currently, 3D printed rounds are being looked at as an alternative to lead for range shooting (reduces lead pollution), and they are looking at various ways that 3D printed ammo can be used.

Interestingly enough, 3D printed rounds are lighter, which means they are also a bit quieter, which would be a plus when you're on the range.

Gonna be just a little while before someone figures out how to print 3D ammo that can be fired out of a 3D printed gun.

Easy To Make 3D Printed Bullets

There are many things that can be made with 3D printers and a completely functional gun is one of them. The 3D Printed gun was not so easy to make, but it was quite cheap to produce – $25 was all that was needed. On the other side, a 3D printed bullet is quite easy to make and is even cheaper.


This weekend, a man named Jeff Heeszel released a YouTube video of a man firing a shotgun. Nothing unusual about that, you’ll say, but he wasn’t shooting a regular bullet, it was a 3D printed bullet that was created at home, on a personal 3D printing machine.
