Make Baseball Great Again

Minor leagues (AAA) use a "electronic eye" strike zone. In 2023 it called all pitches. In 2024 they experimented with an appeal system similar to tennis.

At a minimum, coaches need a ball/strike challenge for the 8th or 9th inning. Just like in football coaches need a 4th quarter challenge on penalty calls/non calls. Too many games are decided by bad calls and that should never happen as good as our video coverage of the games are now.
I'm thinking that comes first, then they drop umpires all together. Definitely need one challenge on a called third strike. Make it so it can be used anytime.

I don't think you can drop umpires completely, there are too many weird things that happen in a game that require real-time calls.

There was a time when umpires were beaten by fans. Bring that back.

It got tiresome to see clowns like Lou Pinella, Billy Martin and Earl Weaver throw a fit, kick dirt, take the base off the moorings, and just generally act like immature brats
yea 3 pretty dam successful clowns....

More technology like instant replay prolongs the game. And then they complain why games are too long. :rolleyes-41:

Unless you are hooking guys up to a machine, I don't see how this is some type of mega precise technology.

Why do we need an umpire? This is archaic and allows the hitters to be unfairly penalized by human error. This also allows the perfect pitch to be called a ball. We have a strike zone clearly delineated. There is no need for human intervention, which can wrong at crucial times.

Why should a base stealer ruled out at second be reviewed by replay and overturned, but not a called third strike?

There was a time when home plate umpires were needed, they just aren't anymore.
I’ve been saying it for years.

There should be a defined strike zone, laser cube over the plate, the exact same for all batters. Enough of this arbitrary BS.

been that way since 1876....
1. Baseball lowered the pitching mound in the 60’s, and recently imposed a pitching clock.
2. The NBA added a 3 point line in the 70’s
3. Tennis went from wood to composite rackets, and has Hawkeye to allow challenges
4. the NFL now has games stop so refs go under the hood to look at replay

Sports make changes to their game to improve it. Human error is a bad thing. Laser grids/sensors eliminate error, or at least hold an objective zone.

Why would you not want to improve strike zone accuracy?

The only way baseball can be great again is if the fucking owners stop paying them millions to allow the small market teams to be on the same level playing field as the big market teams like the fucking Yankees and dodgers.
Why should only big market teams be successful. You are an idiot.

having the ability to buy up all the great players in the league certainly is an advantage, I don’t get why that needs to be said

This is why the NFL is the most watched sport. Parity is good.

I haven’t watched a MLB game in years, umpire or no umpire, I am pretty well done with Major League Baseball.

I think modern pitching norms ruined it.

There’s like almost no aces left, or starting pitchers who regularly pitch more than 6 innings

to be on the same level playing field
Now there's an idea. Make running the bases all uphill until you reach home where you have to quickly jump down without missing the plate or breaking an ankle.
