Maher drops a reality bomb on Zohram Mamdani voters

Socialism/Communism is the idealist wet dream that never happens, and never will.
It completely ignores a primary fault of mankind - selfishness and greed.
Capitalism does not ignore it. It actually counts on it. Depends on it. And why it is successful.
The selfish wants of the people, fulfilled by the greedy willing to pretty much devote their lives to providing those services/goods.

I have asked repeatedly for lefties to gives examples of successful communist countries. THEY CANNOT.

Look at the Korean Peninsula from space at night. The lit up part is SOUTH KOREA. The dark part is NORTH KOREA.

Lefties, tell us again how great communism is!

Explain in great detail.

I agree that SOcialism doesn't work because it ignores the worst in human nature.

Capitalism doesn't work because it indulges the worst in human nature. This is why we go through constant cycles of boom and bust. As Herbert Hoover once observed, "The problem with capitalism is capitalists; they're too damned greedy!"

So here's a crazy idea. Let's stop pretending those are the only two choices on the menu.

We actually had a happy medium after WWII. We didn't have socialism, but we had strong unions, progressive taxes to discourage too much greed and properly fund services, and a government that didn't hold down the working man so the big corporations could screw him.

Well, not that anyone was advocating for "Communism", but if you want a good example, I would give you China, quickly on the way to replacing us as the world's top economy.

Although I would argue that China's success is less about "Communism vs. Captialism" (As both of our systems have a little of both) and more about the efficiency of a technocracy vs. a democracy.

Sure. the problem is your little graphic ignores Korean History.

Before the Cold War or the World Wars, Korea had always been an isolated country. It was called the "Hermit Kingdom" even back under the Joseon Dynasty (which was finally toppled when Japan annexed the country in 1910 after defeating Qing China and Tsarist Russia for dominance.

From 1910 to 1945, the Japanese not only looted the country for every natural resource it had, but went so far as forcing their women into prostitution to support their war effort. Ick.

Then came the Korean War, which inflicted even more misery on the country.

Now, what happened AFTER the Korean War is where it all went South...

N. Korea's benefactors in Russia and China largely just left it to its own devices, and a weird Kim Dynasty emerged that turned it into an odd dystopian state.

MEANWHILE, the West dumped shitloads of money into South Korea to prop up the dictatorships of Syngman Rhee and Park Chung Lee, which lasted for decades. Eventually, they transitioned to a democracy, but it's probably one of the most dysfunctional democracies in the world.

Like President Yoon Suk Yeol, who tried to declare Martial Law last year. Or the previous President Park Geun-hye who was forced to resign when it was found she was consulting a psychic to help her run the country.

It was batter under Batista

Not from the view of most Cubans.

Foreigners owned 75% of the arable land.

JFK Said this about Cuba

I believe that there is no country in the world, including the African regions, including any and all the countries under colonial domination, where economic colonization, humiliation and exploitation were worse than in Cuba, in part owing to my country's policies during the Batista regime. I believe that we created, built and manufactured the Castro movement out of whole cloth and without realizing it. I believe that the accumulation of these mistakes has jeopardized all of Latin America. The great aim of the Alliance for Progress is to reverse this unfortunate policy. This is one of the most, if not the most, important problems in America foreign policy. I can assure you that I have understood the Cubans. I approved the proclamation which Fidel Castro made in the Sierra Maestra, when he justifiably called for justice and especially yearned to rid Cuba of corruption. I will go even further: to some extent it is as though Batista was the incarnation of a number of sins on the part of the United States. Now we shall have to pay for those sins. In the matter of the Batista regime, I am in agreement with the first Cuban revolutionaries.

Yeah, that worked when there was no competition.
When competition appears, US unions kill their hosts.

Perhaps South Korea should spend less money on light bulbs and more on their own defense.

Brilliant retort to explaining why socialism will work in NYC.

DID HE NUT ALL OVER AN INTERN AND LIE ABOUT IT?
New Yorkers enjoy their socialist Medicare and Social Security just as much as I do. I also like my Socialist pension from a steel mill. :D
