Not all crimes are equivalent. Take murder for example. A cold-blooded murder for financial gain (like for a life insurance settlement) is considered worse than a crime of passion resulting in death. Lying in wait for someone is considered worse than a death that results from an argument that escalates to murder. That's what's known as a special circumstance, as is a hate crime which I just so happen to know that conservatives don't believe should have stiffer penalties.

Likewise, the murder of a child is considered to be a more heinous crime than the murder of an adult. Who doesn't understand that? I'm thinking that the answer to that question is no one.

Likewise, an attack on our Capitol for the first time in over 200 years which just so happened on the very same day when the Congress was in the process of affirming the electoral college count in favor of a new president which, by the way, is exactly what the rioters were trying to prevent is not going to be viewed in the very same light as a riot that poses no threat to our government.
