The majority of Americans now approve of President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, a change from just one week prior, according to a new Ipsos/ABC News poll.

Of those surveyed, 55 percent said that they approved of the president's handling of the situation, while 43 percent said they disapproved. The numbers were basically reversed from one week ago when 54 percent said they disapproved and 43 percent approved.

Trump's tone and approach to the outbreak has changed in recent weeks, with the president now appearing at daily briefings at the White House with his coronavirus task force. Trump said this week that he knew that COVID-19 was a pandemic before it was labeled as such by the World Health Organization, despite his previous rhetoric downplaying the severity of the virus.

IN 2016, AFTER years of effort and millions of dollars in government investment, a team of Texas scientists finally developed a promising vaccine for SARS, the deadly strain of coronavirus that had infected over 8,000 people worldwide in the early 2000s. But the outbreak that triggered the research had begun and ended, and no one was contracting new cases of the disease anymore. Private industry and governments responded to the request to fund the human clinical trials with unanimity: not interested. And so the SARS vaccine was shelved.

In August 2010, prompted by the vaccine problems from H1N1, President Barack Obama’s team of science advisers released a report outlining ways the government could speed up production in the future. This had come a year after Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, successfully stripped $870 million in flu pandemic preparation money out of the 2009 stimulus. The administration recommended spending roughly $1 billion per year for the next several years to implement its ideas, which included developing faster potency tests and better machines to do vial-filling. This joined a separate 2010 HHS review, which had concluded that the U.S. “lacks the domestic manufacturing capacity to rapidly produce and package a vaccine for the American public in the face of a pandemic.”

But many of those Obama-era proposals were never fully executed, and four new vaccine manufacturing sites the federal government did invest in beginning in 2012 have barely been utilized to respond to Covid-19.

Obama had a huge majority in the House and Senate for two years. They could have done it anytime they wanted. But chose not to do so.

In reality he had a veto proof majority for very few legislative days during his first two years due to the illness of Byrd and Kennedy (including his death). When Scott Brown replaced him in Feb of 2010, the super majority was done. After that, the Republicans in the Senate could stop any legislation they wanted too. He also faced a Republican led House for the final six years of his terms.

Why would TrumpO do that now? For the past few days he has been bragging it was all his idea to destroy the US economy in order to save 2 million lives.

He sees himself as a life saving hero by distancing himself from all the idiots that were originally and hysterically downplaying the danger from this virus when it was invisibly attacking the American people nationwide. That’s of course is being pulled off by TrumpO denying that he was the leader off those displaying idiots just a few days ago.​

You're the dumbass who said we should listen to Fauci and then said we shouldn't when he pointed out that Trump wasn't responsible for the delay in test kits.

Trump is not responsible for the delay in test kits, but he lacked the foresight to get out ahead of this. Both SK and the US had their first case at the same time. In Jan the leader of SK got together with the leaders of the companies that could help and told them the country needed text kits developed and mass produced...and they did it.

Trump got together with such companies in March. He lacked the wisdom and foresight to prepare the nation.

Well, seems SK is having an uptick in cases again...
