Long past time to make Puerto Rico and DC states

Puerto Rico maybe. Either decide to make it a state or cut them loose. DC should not be a state.

Around 1890 or so Idaho and Wyoming wanted to become States and the Congress would not pass enabling acts.

So they had conventions and adopted Constitutions anyway, and petitioned to join the union as States. They were accepted, maybe because they were both joining as republican States and it was still reconstruction.

After that, States were added in pairs- one republican and one democrat. There was a gentleman's agreement not to change the balance of power.

Oklahoma and Utah, New Mexico and Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii.

One was repub, one was dem. Each time, so as to not favor one party over the other and shift the balance of power in the Senate.

That was back when people still had some respect for the other side...

Sure. There should be a vote up or down. Either make them states or cut them loose. The decision point shouldn’t be does my party get more representation in Congress or not though which is what’s driving the discussion currently.
