I think it was the head of the traffic controllers' union was quoted recently as saying that the controllers could not afford to keep coming to work without getting paid.

Seriously?

What would they be doing with their time if they didn't come to work? Earning money? Gimmeafukkinbreak.

There has never been any doubt that they will be paid in full when the dust settles on the Schumer Shutdown.

There is/was no excuse to decline to work during this unfortunate period.

Calling in sick has zero negative effects on anything, ever.

Talk about a job that needs union protection. Im glad they have that.
LOL, I quit eating that garbage decades ago. Anyone still working those jobs is finding out that working an entry level job for $10/hr. is preferable to sitting at home earning nothing when that same $22/hr job isn't available.

Entry level jobs have zero expectations other than showing up.

For what they are expected to do they are severely underpaid.

I'll say this....

If, during my lean years of a mortgage and raising a young family when I missed that second paycheck I'd be doing a side gig of some kind.

If I was gonna get paid for a days work vs pulling a 10-hour shift and not get paid the fuckin' cattle cars of the sky could wait.

Family first, all else after.....I'd just deal with the consequences.

Seriously do you think air-traffic controllers should keep working without pay because they would be bored if they stayed home? Try it? They have mortgages that come due every month like everyone else. There is no excuse for Schumer to keep punishing Americans because Harris wasn't elected.

Jobs that involve public safety should take precedent over a paycheck when necessary. I think that’s called conscientiousness.
Otherwise, don’t enter that field.

Actually, when you are living paycheck to paycheck, if you aren't getting a check then you need to work somewhere where you can get a check to buy groceries and pay your mortgage. The banks and the grocery stores aren't going to wait a month or two for you to finally get paid.

No one want to hire anyone for an unknown period of time and then have new hire vanish as soon as the shutdown ends.

Hi-tech went thru this 09-13' You try for lesser job and they say...can't do it. You will go back when it turns around. Can't waste my time getting you on-board. thanks but no thanks//

Why don't they file unemployment? two week waiting period on that? Was $450/wk in CA max payout in 09'

Collective Bargaining is incompatible with public sector employment. Unless the employer has skin in the game (i.e., can go bankrupt via a bad contract), it is just a way of screwing those who pay the bills, which means YOU.

Maybe you failed econonics.
If it costs them $50 a day for gas, tolls, and other expenses, is nothing for somebody making $60 an hour.
But for somebody making $0 an hour, how long can they afford to continue to do so?
That they will get backpay doesn't help in the near term.

The same way we survived the xiden years

Record credit card debt

Now it’s coming down for us in the private sector, but we got through four years
