No problem. Jack up those taxes and you can afford to do something about this issue. You might even make a dent in a couple decades.

You see for a long time Federal Funding went to Mental Hospitals. Places where we could send people to get the help they needed. The Feds cut those funds finally eliminating them under Reagan. We couldn’t afford it. It was a problem for the States to address.

The States didn’t address it. They didn’t want to spend the money either. So to get back where we were in 1972, it would take at least twenty years. Time to train enough doctors and nurses to actually staff the facilities.

Just throw them in jail? Ok. We can do that. But jails are overcrowded. Who will we let go to make room for these homeless? Which murderer, rapist, robbers, or drug dealers do we let go?

Build more prisons? Ok. We have about one percent of our population Ickes up or on probation/parole now. Doubling that with the homeless will mean spending twice what we do now. Not sure that’s a great plan.

Give them homes? Republicans rant and rage at rent controls and spending money on homeless. So I’m not sure your party is going to support giving people, especially ones you call lazy, homes.

So what solution didn’t I consider? What do you suggest? A brownian motion of homeless always being run out of one town to the next? Busses running hither and thither carrying homeless to dump them on the next town?

I actually give money or food to homeless people whenever I can and donate money each year to charity to help those in need. It's a shame you feel the way you do. I was homeless once in my life, now I have a Master's degree and am a lot more fortunate then I once was. My wife and her sister have been homeless before. Have a little compassion for the poor and homeless, you have no idea what they go without ever being homeless yourself. If you don't like them sleeping on the street why don't you let one of them stay with you in your home for a while. Many of my family members including myself have opened their homes to the homeless before.

Well CA is so expensive and has a higher tax rate because everyone wants to live there because of how beautiful it is. All kinds of rich people go to California and drive the price of everything up including taxes. The middle and lower class cannot compete with the rich in California so many get driven into homelessness.

I truly think the best way to solve our nations homelessness problem would be to become a socialist or communist nation. Ideally communism would provide housing for all and jobs for all.

It's right there in the preamble of the US Constitution:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Allowing people to live on the streets, to use drugs, to sell their bodies, and to spread disease and commit crimes in no way promotes the general welfare of American citizens, nor does it insure domestic tranquility. In other words, it's not your body when you're abusing it in ways that are detrimental to the health and safety of the general population. As far as I'm concerned, the same thing applies to abortion, for that matter. American citizenship shouldn't start at birth. Even the unborn would have been citizens in the eyes of our founders.
