Seems she was diagnosed pretty late in life. Wish her the best.

Linda Ronstadt revealed that she has Parkinson's disease in an interview with AARP magazine.

The 67-year-old singer told the magazine she was diagnosed eight months ago, but said she had suffered symptoms of the disease for eight years. Initially Ronstadt thought her symptoms were related to a tick-borne illness.

"Parkinson's is very hard to diagnose, so when I finally went to a neurologist and he said, 'Oh, you have Parkinson's disease,' I was completely shocked," Ronstadt told AARP. " I wouldn't have suspected that in a million, billion years."

Ronstadt had a string of hits in the 1970's including "You're No Good" and "When Will I Be Loved" and has sold tens of millions of albums.

She was consistently diagnosed wrongly. It was a nightmare for her. And with no truth to whatever diagnosis they kept her from singing.

Real sad, she had a great voice loved a lot of her songs.

heartbreaking to hear of this...

can't imagine her not being able to sing...

I've been crazy 'bout her voice for a long long time...

I LOVE that she did 'different drum.' It was great, as a young woman, to hear "I ain't sayin you ain't pretty, all I'm saying's I'm not ready."

yep... I well remember when it came out that folks weren't used to hearing tunes like this...

'specally from a gal...

it pretty much broke all the rules at the time...

eta: it's still incredibly refreshing to hear it more'n 45 years later...

I heard it for the first time shortly after my first move to LA in 1967.
What does a Voice like hers do when it no longer sings?

sigh... so much great stuff she did...

Different drum helped shape my life. Janis rocked it though. These were women who blew it threw the wall.

Ronnie kicked ass but the one who really really took it for me was Tina.

We are talking women who rocked the world.

The idea of a young girl telling a handsome suitor to go away 'cause she had other ideas for herself was unheard of at the time...

Linda, in her relatively quiet way, indeed shook the world with that tune...

Years ago, I went to a performance of "Songs of my Father" and was appalled that audience members yelled out "Sing in English" and many got up and left.

LR was always great... but she became even more incredible when she took on the Mexican song book back in the early 90's...
