G-8 Protests Turn Violent in Germany Ahead of Summit

ROSTOCK, Germany — Protesters clashed with police officers, throwing stones and flagpoles at officers Saturday at a demonstration attended by tens of thousands against the upcoming Group of Eight summit in Germany, a police official said.

"There are massive assaults on police officers at the city's harbor right now," police spokeswoman Cordula Feichtinger said. "The situation is currently very chaotic and we have to get it under control before I can tell you how many people have been arrested."

Buses and trains from across Europe streamed into the northern port city, bringing thousands of protesters to the largest-yet demonstration over the upcoming G-8 meeting of industrialized powers.

A group of protesters attacked a hotel where an American delegation is supposed to stay during the G-8 summit this week, and some demonstrators also battered police cars with rocks, bottles and paint bombs, authorities said.

I’ve seen conservatives waste time on chat rooms and bulletin boards. I’ve read about conservatives picketing and even using violence against abortion clinics. Fundamentally, liberals and conservatives are practically the same – people, human beings – only the details (i.e. their socio-political views) are different (to one degree or another).
