The founders did not envision a political judiciary at all, that is one reason they have lifetime appointments- so they can decide cases without fear of political consequences.

It was Biden that politicized the Supreme Court when he was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Starting with Robert Bork, then Clarence Thomas, and right down the line.

It has always been democrats who view judicial appointments as political, because there is a belief that what they cannot achieve in the Congress, they can implement in the courts.

The Legislative Branch is the ONLY branch of Gov't that is supposed to be overtly political. The others are supposed to be above the fray. Sadly that is long gone, and will never return.

If the Democrats are going to view the GOP nominating SCOTUS judges the legal way as some injustice that requires them to combat it with a major unprecedented politicization of the SCOTUS… that needs to be talked about, because that’s the rhetoric I was hearing…

9 justices should be codified into law.

If the Democrats were to add 2 to put in 2 of their usually activist judges, the next GOP should add 10 radical conservatives just to punish them for it, and then codify 21 for all time. Democrats act out but whine when the rules they make are used against them

The Supreme Court is what it is. Democrats are the only ones trying to politicize it with requests for certain judges to retire so a younger one can hold the seat. What you say is true, and it is also exactly what the dems would have done if the shoe was on the other foot.

It was Biden who first suggested that a nominee should not be confirmed in an election year, way back when Bush Sr. was POTUS.

McConnell used that "Biden Rule" as the excuse to wait until after the election to fill Scalia's seat. There was some risk to doing that- the commonly held view was that Hillary was going to win, and would have nominated an even more liberal justice than Garland...

Democrats have not had a majority or a liberal Supreme court chief justice in over 50 or 60 years or maybe 70 years. Why would they pick a republican to balance it out...

Democrats would have one more liberal picked justice, a 5 to 4 court, making it a more balanced supreme court to the people in our nation, IF YOU, (McConnell) HAD NOT CHEATED, and prevented Obama from constitutionally picking the Supreme court justice for Scalia to replace him, when he died, about a year before Obama was out of office.
