Liberal Opposition to State Autonomy

Please explain why you are opposed to greater State autonomy. According to most Liberals, Blue States are better than Red States in almost every way. Why don't you all move to Blue States and leave the Red States alone? If you are so concerned about other people, you can invite them to live in your state. What are you afraid of?

The fascists find it a lot easier to manipulate and control the central government than 50 different state governments.

Nodding....usually. Kinda puts the whole 'liberty' plank of the republican party into perspective. Apparently 'liberty' is the State's authority to strip people of their rights.

Define 'state autonomy'.

Under our federal Constitution, states are sovereign entities which can enact laws governing their jurisdictions. For the past 50 years, the federal government has usurped this authority in an ever increasing number of areas. (I am NOT referring to the entirely legal enforcement of the 14th Amendment.) For example, the defacto national 55 mph speed limit effectively invalidated legitimately established state speed limits through the subterfuge of threatening to withhold federal highway funds.

In a more contentious area, why should states be denied the authority to pass laws on abortion procedures? Why is this any different than state authority to pass laws on other medical procedures? Women can always go to another state where a particular procedure is legal, just as they can go to another state to get married or divorced.

Why do you want to force all states to have the same laws? Why must you impose your views on others?

Incorrect.

The states are subject to the Federal Constitution, they may not interfere with the Federal government, they are subject to the Federal courts, and have no authority to violate citizens' rights.

So does being a 'sovereign entity' mean that they are outside the jurisdiction of the United States? That they aren't subject to judicial review from the Federal Government? That they can violate the rights of Federal Citizens?

What exactly do you mean by 'sovereign entities'?
 
The states are subject to the Federal Constitution, they may not interfere with the Federal government, they are subject to the Federal courts, and have no authority to violate citizens' rights.

Don't you understand that those items NOT specified in the constitution are the purview of the states?

Our whole form of government is based upon a federation of states in which the central government defends all and settles disputes between the various states!

Since the adoption of the 14th amendment, the Federal Government also protects the rights of Federal Citizens from abuse by State law.

And every American is a federal citizen.
