OK folks. Now as European leaders looked to the USA as leader of the free world, for decisive action about Ukraine/Russia, lost in space Joey did nothing but mumble about sanctions that might hurt Russia MONTHS from now.

European leaders seeing this, picked up Biden's fumbled ball, and are now running to the end zone with it, by enacting action to ban sanctioned Russian banks from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) > Italy, Germany, France, the EU. They also are taking steps to sanction Putin directly/personally.

When in press conference, a reporter asked Biden "You recently said that the idea of personally sanctioning President Putin was on the table. Is that a step that you’re prepared to take?"
Biden answered >> "It’s not a bluff; it’s on the table."
Reporter : "Why not sanction him today, sir? Why not sanction him today, sir?"
Instead of answering that, Biden weirdly looked off into space, and then bizzarely and quickly, dodged the reporter's relevant question entirely, by pointing his finger at another reporter, and moving on to another question.

Here's a write-up the whole shameful scene with a list of comments from Americans and what they think. Pretty revealing and disturbing >>

By the way, everyone knows that you fight a bully by standing up to them and knocking them flat! Trump did that to Putin for four years. I've been watching streaming coverage from other parts of the world, and Biden is getting hammered by practically everyone, news anchors and average people commenting. I don't think it takes much of a genius to see how weak the actions are. NATO won't make a serious move unless we back it. Unfortunately, popular opinion is still against direct involvement so far, and I understand that: it will cost a lot of lives. It was the same before the first 2 big wars, and we didn't act until we had no choice.

But if we *don't* act now, what will be the cost in a few short months? How far will Russia go if there aren't any direct defenses and Putin continues to smell fear and weakness? How many other despots will decide to invade their neighbors, seeing that there will be no response?

The smart thing to do would be to at least ramp up our military and prepare for fighting on multiple fronts. A real leader would stand up in front of the public and explain why we can't just sit back and let it happen. People will follow a strong leader with a just cause.

He has introduced sanctions. Are you mad?
So have the allies.
Why are you rooting for the Russians?
Where's all your communist hate now?
I told you your failure to condemn Putin was a to support him. Now you virtually say it in public but I was ridiculed when I said it. Oh the irony.

I'm not sure that's the case but they certainly haven't done much. Bear in mind Ukraine is not NATO so they have no business in there. The Russians keep vetoing their application and now we know why.
Unfortunately, popular opinion is still against direct involvement so far, and I understand that: it will cost a lot of lives. It was the same before the first 2 big wars, and we didn't act until we had no choice.

But if we *don't* act now, what will be the cost in a few short months?
Good point. Cut to the chase. I would rather Biden overstep the mark and hook into them . What are the consequences for protecting a free country? Not sure. Will he stop the slaughter, probably.
How will that be accepted by the rest of the world and at home? It won't by republicans because they want him to fail.
It's a difficult decision.
How far will Russia go if there aren't any direct defenses and Putin continues to smell fear and weakness?
I explained why USA isn't in there. Biden is frightened of Putin if he gets the nod to go in. Why would he be frightened? Never stopped America before.
How many other despots will decide to invade their neighbors, seeing that there will be no response?
None if NATO is involved.
The smart thing to do would be to at least ramp up our military and prepare for fighting on multiple fronts. A real leader would stand up in front of the public and explain why we can't just sit back and let it happen.
For Christ sake. Get off the I hate Biden shit. It's not the time for it. Real Americans will support his involvement because they are sympathetic. Others like yourself want failure to act and use it against him.
All that aside, I think he should flex a bit of muscle, fuck NATO and defend a free country. If that happens though, hello China.
People will follow a strong leader with a just cause.
True. They wouldn't follow a spineless bastard like trump who has been sucking up to putin for years. He has business interests there.

We (America) must avoid engaging the Russians militarily at all costs. Forget about nuclear Armageddon for a moment. If NATO and the United States counterattack the Russians in the Ukraine, chances are very high China will open up a new front in the Pacific to ease pressure on Putin and North Korea could invade South Korea. Boom! Welcome to World War 2022 edition. Both the Russians and the Chinese have been modernizing and expanding their militaries for decades, and not for show or popularity in Janes.

Still assuming any direct military clashes between the US and Russia/China remain conventional, is our military and the militaries of NATO ready to fight a two-front war? What if Russia opens a third front by attacking across the Bering Sea into Alaska? NATO will be occupied in Eastern Europe, so who will back us in the Pacific? Japan? The Aussies? If North Korea attacks the south, that will tie up our thousands of troops stationed there. Who will come to our aid?

Any conventional World War between the US and NATO, Russia and China, will eventually and inevitably force us to resort to battlefield tactical nuclear weapons, such nuclear demolition charges and nuclear artillery shells, to stem the tide of superior Russian MBT numbers, and or swarming Chinese manpower. If that happens, then what's to stop Russia/China from accelerating the situation to full ICBM strikes? What's to stop either side from deploying other WMD against population centers, such as chemical or biological weapons?

While I agree that world powers cannot afford to give Putin too much room to maneuver, so far there's no indication he plans to push beyond the borders of the Ukraine. Believe me, if we engage Putin or Xi militarily, either or both of those madmen will strike against civilian populations in both the US and Europe. I don't know about you, but I am not anxious to glow in the dark like a fucking Lite Bright.

Although I am loathe to admit it, I really can't see any difference between the US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan and the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Did the United States directly engage the USSR when she invaded Afghanistan in the 1980's? Did Russia attack us for invading Iraq in 2003?

Everyone needs to take a massive step back, take a few breaths, and really fucking think about their next moves on the world stage.

Colin norris No problem putting aside party divisions. It behooves us to pull together and root for the best outcome, even if I have to cringe at the pervert commander in chief.

The one thing I haven't seen much talk of here is that Putin appears to be getting as much criticism from the people of Russia as Biden is getting here at home. It could be propaganda put out by our western media, but the video of protests and interviews I've seen look pretty convincing. If it's true, Putin won't have enough support at home to continue his ambitions or to stay in a protracted war in Ukraine. Or at least we can hope.

Too bad the media hasn't covered the massive protests against Trudeau & Biden's non-sensical mandates the same way...I would have more faith in their reporting if they had.

How many territories would you wait for Russia and China to annex before you think it would be a good idea to take action? If they succeed in Ukraine, they will be in possession of massive amounts of energy and uranium reserves. China already fully annexed Hong Kong while we were asleep, and if they take Taiwan, they will have that much more economic power to fuel their expansionist plans. They've also been testing the Philippines in recent years, in case you haven't heard.

Nope, we've seen this before, and every time, waiting to act just makes it worse in the long run. You're right though, we better plan on fighting in more than one theatre. Hopefully we won't be alone, though. I've heard even countries like Colombia and Mexico are already committing troupes to Ukraine.

The difference was Iraq invaded Kuwait and was trying to take over one of the largest oil banks in the world. The taliban from Afghanistan attacked us on our own soil. Ukraine was minding its own business before Russia annexed Chimera and the eastern provinces. I myself was thinking Russia might be ok if they were only taking over troubled regions...but this full-scale invasion of the whole country is a different story.

Biden is getting played by both these guys: he thinks he'll be rewarded or something if he plays along. Who knows, maybe they will pay him off.

Right now, we have quite few just causes, but a severe lack of strong leaders
Is expanding NATO to Russia's western border on your list of just causes?

Chronicle of War Foretold

"In a classified diplomatic cable obtained and released by WikiLeaks dated February 1, 2008, written from Moscow, and addressed to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, NATO-European Union Cooperative, National Security Council, Russia Moscow Political Collective, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State there was an unequivocal understanding that expanding NATO risked an eventual conflict with Russia, especially over the Ukraine."

That eventual conflict is where we are today, and it was done to stimulate US arms sales to Europe regardless of how many more innocent civilians paid with their lives.

WTF?
Owning a house is hardly a sign of greatness.
Maybe you've noticed that a shiload of people own their own homes and some have two or more homes.

And this guy refers to ME as "whacko". HA HA. First, I live in a VERY comfortable apartment building, the construction of which was just completed in 2022. I have a large swimming pool, large screened in patio next to the pool, large activity room, arts & crafts room, billiards room, well-equipped exercise room, built-in washer-dryer in a closet, walk-in closet in bedroom. Great apt and all for $787/month, in a location (Tampa, FL) that has the 4th highest rent increases in America, 9th in the world.

As for what I do during the day, I'm 75 years old, and while most people my age are retired, I just quit a job teaching music only because the store wasn't supplying enough students. I was employed teaching another student this morning at a home, while you were writing this lame brain post.

As for owning a home, I've owned 3 of them in the past. might own one again in the future, but it is isn't anything I feel any need for. This apartment is exceptionally quiet and high-standard. As for criticizing Biden, I can think of many worse things to do with my time.

PS - I now teach music (guitar, violin, mandolin), as well as art (painting) to my neighbors, free of charge. What do you do with your free time, other than criticize your fellow USMB posters ? 😐

None of this Ukraine/Russia crap would even be happening had the American Socialist Party not planned and executed The Steal in 2020.
President Trump would invoke SWIFT sanctions on Russia in a New York minute.

Do you ever stop posting Garbage? Read this.

I'm not sure that's the case but they certainly haven't done much. Bear in mind Ukraine is not NATO so they have no business in there. The Russians keep vetoing their application and now we know why.

I explained why USA isn't in there. Biden is frightened of Putin if he gets the nod to go in. Why would he be frightened? Never stopped America before.

None if NATO is involved.

True. They wouldn't follow a spineless bastard like trump who has been sucking up to putin for years. He has business interests there.
Trump has dealt with our politicians and other governments all of his life. He knows how greedy for power and for money they are, and how devious they are. That is how his thinking is oriented.

Gonna put on my tin foil hat and say this sounds like Biden is trying to squeeze every personal dollar out of this deal until it closes. :0/

I am ashamed of my government. Sorry, Europe and Ukraine; promise we’ll try to clean up this mess in November’22 and ‘24.

Not sure this will make you feel better, but this isn't really your government anymore anyway. Think of them like custodians for China's interests who view you as expendable.

Hopefully the UK, France or Italy (f*** Germany) will bypass his Fraudulency and activate the NATO Article V act and save the free world

So, these are the adults running the show! Sorry, I’ll take the bully Trump and his mean tweets any day. By the way, everyone knows that you fight a bully by standing up to them and knocking them flat! Trump did that to Putin for four years. Joey just went toe to toe with Putin, as he bragged about during the campaign. Well Putin just kicked Joey in his pu**y and Joey is down for the count! Great job voters, putting Joey in the Oval Office!

The Biden regime wanted war so he could boost his ratings.
But, like everything else, he has failed.

You're a fool. A useful idiot.

Certainly. And that includes Finland and Sweden, as well as Ukraine, all while Putin and his military fold like an accordian.
