Let's Discuss Those Democrat Cities

Republicans who keep losing local elections because their ideas are no good, like blaming Democratic mayors for problems. Seems that finally Democratic mayors have had enough.

Newsweek: Republicans Blame Us for Violent Crime—While Blocking Our Efforts to Fight It

America is in the throes of a gun violence epidemic that is driving an increase in violent crime. Horrific acts of violence have permeated every part of our daily lives. We can't go to a concert, a nightclub, a mall, the gym, to schools, celebrate the 4th of July or Pride without fear of a shooting. And as soon as we begin to come to grips with one shooting, another happens.

We are four Democratic mayors in red and purple states and we can tell you that contrary to the narrative on the Right, gun violence is not confined to liberal states on America's coasts; it is a national epidemic that requires immediate, national action. While mass shootings capture the headlines and flood our phones with push alerts, as mayors, we know those are only a small fraction of the acts of gun violence that shatter our communities every day. We have attended the funerals and heard the stories of families destroyed because the wrong person had access to a deadly firearm.

As mayors, we are on the front lines of fighting back against violent crime. And as Democratic mayors, we are the driving force behind directing resources to support proven violence prevention programs and law enforcement. This includes activating community-based interventions, gun buy-backs, jobs and outreach programs for at-risk youth. We have also used American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds funds to support police departments in hiring, retaining, and training officers, creating programs to address domestic violence and forge technological upgrades to ensure police safety.

But even with these smart interventions and investments, many of us are facing uphill battles, thanks to the very people who like to blame Democratic mayors for violence.

Our state Republican governors and legislators are tying our hands as we attempt to curb gun violence and keep our cities safe—even while they blame us for crimes in our communities. They are doing this by repealing life-saving gun safety laws and actively passing legislation that puts communities and officers in danger by flooding our streets with guns.

Last year, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed legislation to prohibit police and sheriffs from enforcing federal gun laws. Texas Governor Greg Abbott helped pass pro-gun legislation like open carry, campus carry and permit- and training-less carry. As a result, both the numbers of murders and the percentages of homicides committed with guns increased. Of the 1,187 murders in 2014, 63.3 percent were committed by the use of firearms. By 2020, that increased to 80.6 percent. Texans felt the impact of the gun crisis when 19 children recently lost their lives in Uvalde.

In March, Ohio's Republican-controlled Statehouse rolled back gun laws when he signed a bill allowing all Ohioans aged 21 and older to carry a concealed firearm without a permit, training, or background check. Gun deaths in Ohio were already on the rise, with deaths from firearms in 2021 at an all time high. The impacts are already being felt. Due to the state's new permitless carry law, law enforcement in Youngstown had to recently release 10 people without charge whom they could have charged with a gun crime before the law took effect.

Oh, I see the problem. These leftwing mayors are blaming guns for their crime, when the real issue is the PC woke crap that won't allow policemen to do their jobs.

Personally, I favor permit only concealed carry on the streets of cities, and attaining a permit should not be expensive, but should include local and national background check, uniform class training in weapons safety, storage, applicable laws, where you can and cannot carry, as well as weapons safety on the street, and on the range with requirement of marksmanship qualification at multiple distances for record, on the range.
Along with this, institution of stop and frisk be utilized in the cities to recover weapons that should not be in possession of person carrying, as well as enforcement of all state and federal weapons laws, with stiff penalties for violations.
The idea of having anybody and every body walking the streets carrying (open or concealed) with no standard of training proficiency is ludicrous.
That is just my opinion. Of course, I was raised with weapons. I trained people on a variety of weapons for many years, in a disciplined manner. I own and practice with several different types of weapons pretty regularly and am full licensed and permitted for carry in 30 states.
In the home and on your property, you should be allowed to keep any weapon you legally buy for your personal defense of your home, and family.
Problem is, many states and cities make you jump through expensive hoops, while others are more of a come one, come all, anything goes type mindset, as in all the guns for all the people all the time, with little or no real regard for training, safety, or qualifications and training.
Most of this sounds good, but stop and frisk failed because of bias. On the whole though, I agree with the ownership with a license and training. I think it should be like a drivers license whereby it's renewable avery 4 or 5 years with testing and training. .

Guns enable crime. We should work to stop anything that enables crime instead of making excuses.
Oh, we should and let start with the fact you can remove guns from society and people will still kill and commit crime, so what is your next thing you will blame?

White people?

Let remove them also!

What is next?

Hispanic and Asians?

Let remove them!

Now we are left with Blacks as the majority without guns and let me ask you when someone kills someone will you then realize it isn’t the weapon it is the person and the society you promote?

Stop making excuses and fix your society!

Wrong.

Not sure how spending $7 Trillion to fight Global Warming in Uzbekistan is going to end urban violence ... but, Hey! If they weren't geniuses, they wouldn't be in charge of cities, right?
And I'm sure no mayor proposed that.

It's not just your opinion, but mine as well and others I talked to.

I was against our state going constitutional carry from the beginning. My reasoning is that I've been to the range when asshole kids were there treating a dangerous weapon like a toy. One time they were two stalls away from us and shot a round into the ceiling and began laughing like they just heard the funniest joke in years.

Last year if I were unarmed at a convenience store getting robbed and another citizen pulled his or her weapon, I would be confident they knew how to use it as I've been through the training myself. If that were to happen today, I don't know which I would fear the most, the robber or the armed citizen.

Can we not post silly bs?

White people commit crimes. Hispanic and Asians commit crimes.

This thread has nothing to do with race and the society that needs to be fixed is the AMERICAN society.

the same old excuse for not punishing the criminal...it's the guns fault. But hell arm all lRS agents...
Since republicans defend and excuse criminals, reading a buch of republicans whining about punishing criminals is funny.

Guns enable crime. We should work to stop anything that enables crime instead of making excuses.

It doesn't enable shit.

You take a nice safe middle-class white neighborhood, make a law that all citizens must own a firearm, and their violent crime rate will not change.
Go to a high-crime low income area and make a law that nobody is allowed to be in possession of a firearm, and their violent crime rate will not change either.

Criminals will always find a way to commit crime. Law abiding citizens will most always be law abiding citizens.

the same old excuse for not punishing the criminal...it's the guns fault. But hell arm all lRS agents...

That is funny, especially because I've never read a story about any IRS agent needing to defend himself with a firearm.

George Soros has nothing to do with this.

You are really divorced from the news, ain't cha?

It's Soros that funds the campaigns of these soft on crime DA's and prosecutors. That's where your problem is at, not guns.

How can you say this has nothing to do with race when per capita, blacks lead in every violent crime category. Over 50% of our murders are committed by just 7% of our population in this country, and we both know who that is.

The only idea democrat mayors have is to take away guns from the law abiding.

Voting democrat is like touching the hot stove...only the pain will make you stop!

Exactly.

And they know damn well that only law-abiding human beings will obey such laws, which makes them easier prey for subhuman criminal shit.

Democraps are on the side of criminals, and against the side of human beings.

The cities will just have to make it work, bias or not. It is the only way you will get illegally carried weapons off the street.
Four years is too big a pain in the ass. Mine expires april of 2027. I am not required to attend another class or re-certify on the range at that time, but my age will only be about 73. I would not be insulted if at some interval in the future I was required to re-certify on the range. 73 is not bad, but in my family, for men 83 is getting kind of iffy. Last thing you need walking around locked and cocked is an 80 something year old man that has finally come down with Alzheimer's, Senile Dementia or gone blind, re-upping his permit by mail.

FACTS-

1. Guns are NOT controlled, never have been. This is why the 300 THOUSAND plus gun/firearm laws in this country do not work. Mainly because NONE of them are enforced. And a law that is not enforced is NOT a law, only a suggestion!!

2. The "gun violence epidemic" is BECAUSE of the Democrats. If it weren't for their hypocrisy and two-faced "promises", things would not be as bad as they are.

3. If somebody wants a gun, they will GET a gun. Laws or no laws! Legal or illegal!! Gun laws don't do shit, except get liars into political office. If they can't get a gun, they'll get a knife, or a hammer, or a crossbow, or...........................

Republicans know "gun laws" are just a waste of tax payers money. That money could be used to make public schools better, or nursing homes better, or have more funds for unemployment..........why the fuck would they waste MORE tax payers money when the 300 THOUSAND plus laws already on the books regarding guns and firearms OBVIOUSLY DO NO FUCKING GOOD??!!!
LOL at the notion that repugs care about or would spend another cent on public schools, nursing homes, or unemployment.
