Lesser Known War Movies

Don't use Goebbels propaganda too often.
Let's try and avoid getting into war atrocities arguments, every one involved in WWII committed atrocities, some were worse than others, of course, but no one was immune. War is an atrocity and everyone suffers from it.

A 1985 Japanese War movie ... with a decidedly anti-War theme ...

Here is little know submarine movie made in 1957 that is rarely seen these days but is a fine movie. In WWII in the battle in the Atlantic, two equally able captains on opposing sides square off in a life-and-death game of tactical maneuvering. American Capt. Murrell (Robert Mitchum) helms the destroyer USS Haynes, while his Nazi counterpart, Von Stolberg (Curt Jurgens), commands a German U-boat. As both men follow their orders, they push their crews to greater lengths to achieve victory. Over the course of the intense battle, a respect develops among enemies.

It is an intense movie with an unexpected ending.

Rotten Tomatoes rates as 86% and best of all you can watch the complete movie for free by clicking the link below.

A made for t.v. movie that is at least a war movie by the title.
"The Milagro Beanfield War" that will be very appealing to leftists mostly.
It's about the fight to defeat a big developer intending to destroy the lifestyle of ordinary people in a US, Mexican village of Milagro. A highly satisfying outcome that also includes a statement against the gun issue.
Thats off topic

Here is a movie that barely meets the qualification of a war movie because it takes place just after the end of the war. This is not an action adventure movie but it is certainly about the war. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 98%. It also won 8 academy awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.

"The Best Years Of Our Lives is an eloquent tribute to returned veterans [and] a magnificent, brilliant contribution to motion pictures as an art."

"Every member of the cast Is so much like some one you know, every one so natural and likable, as real and pathetic as any human being close to your heart, but Fredric March, Dana Andrews, and Harold Russell give faultless performances."

"No battle scenes, but possibly, the Best War Movie you've ever seen"
