So why do they call it "Latin America"? And why do they call them "Latinos"?

Have you ever heard a Mexican speak Latin? I can't say that I have.

A couple explanations come to mind.
1) Italian, French, Spanish (Portuguese ?) are all derived from Latin and referred to as the 'Latin' languages.
2) Regions of the New World, the Americas, form Mexico on Southward were settled mostly by the Spanish, who were mostly Catholic, and the mass and other dogma of the Church were in Latin.

...
They are referred to as the Romance Languages, and you left out Romanian.

They are called the Romance Languages because the word "romance" comes from the Latin "romanice," which means "in the Roman way."

I didn't know that. I always wondered what a supposed to be so romantic about some languages.
