This is a 1998 movie. There is not to be confused with a 2010 movie by the same name.
I discovered this movie randomly. It's not an action movie. Or a horror movie, though they could have gone that direction. It's just a small movie with interesting dialog. A weird little Canadian nugget.
The premise of the movie is that the world will be ending at midnight. No explanation is given of the reason or the method of the ending, but the world apparently had a two month warning. One clue is that it is broad daylight all the way to the end, so the sun must somehow be involved.
The movie begins at 6 pm and goes all the way to midnight.
The movie follows how people behave on the last day in Toronto.
Sandra Oh is the only semi-famous actor in the movie. There is also a cameo by Genevieve Bujold who was a big actress in the 80s.
In 1998, everyone was afraid of the "millennium bug" which was going to cause all computers to shut down at midnight on January 1, 2000. That may be the inspiration of this movie.
One man from the gas company makes a personal call to every customer to let them know he is keeping the gas going to the end.
One guy at the radio station CKRT decides to play the top 500 songs of all time.
A random group of people go around tipping over unattended cars and other transportation vehicles, creating a serious inconvenience for Sandro Oh who is trying to get home to her husband.
A crazy old woman jogs throughout the city yelling to everyone how much time is left until midnight, as if they didn't already know.
Another guy has created a bucket list of all the varieties of sex he wants to have. A black woman, a former teacher, anal sex, a virgin, etc. He has made a lot of progress in two months, and is knocking more out by the hour.
And so forth and so on.
