the usual bug fixes, security but nothing new added.

I had a corrupt dism for a few months due to window installed a newer IRST raid drive which did not play nice with my system

this major update apparently bypassed all this, downloaded, installed and it's all fixed

SFC works again

I was going to shortly bust out a raid1 drive from a few month ago and swap/update......no need, nice

Is it too late to admit I still run Windows XP, and love it?
Nah. But it is nice to know I am not the last one holding out on loading 11.
I liked XP back in the day and had some good software that did not run on 10.

I don't use XP as my main OS, but I run it in a Parallels App for MacOS as a virtual OS so that I can run a number of really old but really good programs.

Anyone else having trouble with their computers jumping around and popups blocking you trying to post anything??????

Went to windows 11 a few months ago. After going through a lot of the "where is" and "how do i", i can admit that it's an improvement over windows 10.

how so? quicker? problem with 11 to make it look like 10 you need 3rd party apps. course MS could simple have built in tools to make it easy but nah, they make you work for it

  • I have found Windows11 can boot much faster than Windows 10.
  • Sleep and hibernate problems in windows 10 have been fixed.
  • It offers multiple desk tops that are easy to use. Since I store almost all files related to ongoing projects on my desktop, I can keep work on various projects separated from personal suff.
  • Troubleshooting is better integrated into windows so it actually fixes more problems.
  • There have been major improvements in Security. By default Windows encrypts your storage devices without noticeable slowing down of data retrievable . Also they have added wordless authentication features, and secure boot. Best of all, Microsoft has improved their firewall and Microsoft Defender. With these improvements, most windows users will not need third party virus and spyware protection.
  • A free version of Microsoft Copilot is included with windows 11. It is great at grammar checking, creating memos, and emails as well researching.
  • Autosave will save ever stroke you enter in Word and Excel. So if the power goes off or you forget to save your work, you will lose anything.
  • The blue screen of death is being replace by a new screen that actually contains information you can use to troubleshoot the problems.
  • These are just changes I have found usefully. There are plenty of others.

it's more polished than 10 but the GUI is not for everybody if you like the classic shell. I never liked the whole tile thing they had with 8 I think
engine wise, yes blue screens have more info, better security, that is why you need TPM 2.0

11 turns on bitlocker whether you want it to or not? I'll need to check on this

Throw this on top of windows 11

Or go Linux

So many distrows
I tried mint, it's ok but when you started with 95 is still feels kinda funny
if you want just to browse the internet, do some basic word processing it can work
they have made it as close to windows as they legally can
tried fordora red hat ages ago, ah trying to get updates it's weird
if you know linux well it's familiar otherwise it feels strange, like apple OS

I have an old built of mine that still works, core2 4gb or ram, perfectly fine for mint when I can get around it just for fun
I want to say it has 7 but possible I upgraded to 10, lack of ram it's slow but I probably have some memory laying around in my computer drawer to give it a slight bump

11 is hot garbage. I use some kind of extended release 10 with no Updates ever.
I actually set it up with all the tweaks and stuff and ripped some stuff out of it with Linux and a couple other things.
Then if I need a new Windows I copy it. :D
Usually need a new OS about every 3-9 mos or so. Things get cluttered..blech.
On a nice chiny new OS right now. :D

11 has it's issues, hopefully 12 will address that.........or make it worse

thing with mint, not so easy to really set up a raid1, sure they have drivers for nvidia and everybody else
mint also even with extended release it good for a year or two it seems, not sure if you can just upgrade within mint
or not
I've no problem with 10, the fact MS lied and it was not the last with just updates sucked but TPM 2.0 helps security
as programs and games need more power, more ram 10 is just getting old basically

been running raid1 for 20 years, not only does it increase read which I mostly do but auto backup
one drive needs replaced, swap in a new one.......rebuild, all good to go

I have acronis as well just for another C backup

that said I have never had a drive just up and die and wipe out my system
hell, I still have an IBM deskstar 40mb that somehow works, slow as paint drying of course
