Yanukovych tried to force Putin's policies on the Ukrainian people, and they rejected it, and everything [proceeded according to the Ukrainian Constitution. In 2014 after Yanukovych left, Putin tried to regain control of Ukraine by sending pro-Russian militia to attack the Ukrainian government and Ukrainians loyal to it, and when they failed, he sent in Russian troops.
