I totally agree that something needs to be done to help the 'poor' in our country ... but

Is this a little extreme? Or is it just my, strange thinking again?

I can see this all now ... dragging teen/pre-teen age daughter's in with a plan to make money off of them.

State Representative John LaBruzzo of Metairie said many of his constituents are tired of paying for children from poor families and that is why he is considering proposing legislation that would pay women on government assistance $1,000 if they choose to be sterilized.

Looks alright on the surface. An extra option to those on assistance to choose if they like.

The underlying reasoning is kinda scary, though. Has a slippery-slope feel to it, ya know?

Oh, yeah, I hadn't thought of that but you're right. People would totally do that.

Well, there'd no doubt be a lower bound on the age and a consent requirement, but I could indeed see some families pressuring their teen girls to go get a thousand bucks real quick.
