It's a joke of course. This apparently happened in the 1970s or 80s, though it apparently didn't really happen at all. Others say it was a chicken. Most likely a big myth. I still enjoy the story though. It probably helped him sell tickets and get street cred as a nut.

Oh my, I just did some research and indeed he DID bite the head off of a bat, though he didn't mean to as he thought it was rubber. I always thought it was some bs urban legend.

He also bit off the heads of doves while drunk and in a CBS studio. What a creepy, messed up freak.
