The 3 times my life felt most affected by government:

1. 1981 when I first seriously considered purchasing a house but passed due to mortgage rates being 21% as Paul Volcker's induced recession finally brought a halt to decade long inflation. Gave up on idea of buying a house and moved to Arizona rather than suffering another winter of cabin fever in Ohio.
2. 2003, I was against GW Bush's notion of a war with Iraq and his conduct in pushing for Islamic Republics there and in Afghanistan. It was the time I've been most upset with our government.
3. During COVID. But like #1 back in 1981, while life was affected, I had no complaints coping with the situation. Being retired at the time definitely helped to ease the situation.

Luckily, I never felt my economic condition was held at the mercy of the government.
