Just got a 2,000 dollar ER bill

You must live in a Socialist country then, with "open" healthcare.

In the USA, the first question they ask you is "How are you going to pay for this" or "Do you have insurance".
If you don't have insurance, don't give them a credit card to charge, or offer cash payment, they won't help you.

Well........the government funded hospitals will take you, but they are overcrowded, under staffed, and heinously an abominable place to be stuck in. Charity hospitals will also take you, but you have to wait in line..........doesn't matter what is wrong with you.
If you don’t have INSURANCE
THEY WILL HELP YOU

/----/ That's the first time I've heard LUCK was the deciding factor in the redistribution of property. Good one. LOL

There is no "redistribution of property" involved at all.
No one WANTS to need medical care.
It is always bad luck.
So socialized medicine is NOT redistribution of property, but risk pooling, sharing the misfortune, helping out the unfortunate.
It is the very least any modern society should do.

Almost the whole world has free public medical care.
The US is about the ONLY country that does not.
/———/ “Free healthcare “ ain’t free.
Most Americans would pay more for their health care than they do today. According to a recent Heritage Foundation analysis, financing such a program would require broad-based taxation equal to 21.2% of all wage and salary income, and reduce the disposable income of nearly two-thirds (65.5%) of American households, making them financially worse off than they are today.
