John Thune elected Majority leader

But Miriam Adelson and Ben Shapiro are thrilled with these picks!

Why wouldn’t they be? They are pro-Israel picks, with a strong determination to side with our ally.

I’m sure Thune is pro-Republican president no matter who that is.

Not my first choice, but anyone would be a major improvement over Mitch the Turtle.

Good. An intelligent, normal, decent, mature adult.

My standards for this administration are such that anything above Alex Jones, Rosanne Barr and Nick Fuentes will be considered a moral victory.
Good thing none of those are being appointed to cabinet positions.

Yep, we are about to fuck up the Palestinians for REAL now. The past year has been a walk in the park. Trump isnt going to tie Israels hands like Biden did. Now they have a green light to go ham on those scumbag palis.

Zionism is about to see a golden age.
Fucking Nazi.

"This Republican team is united. We are one team, we are excited to reclaim the majority and get to work with our colleagues in the House to enact president Trump's agenda...we have an mandate from American people —a mandate not only to clean up mess left by the Biden Harris Schumer agenda, but also to deliver on president trump's priorities."

I agree with him, 100 percent.

The majority leader doesn't need the ability to deal in foreign policy, with Putin.
There's a new thread on dealing with Putin. Take it there.
huh? You don't think the Senate has anything to do with foreign policy? Really?

This is a good pick. Dems can work with him, and he is not pro-Trump.

John Thune (R-S.D.) has been elected Senate majority leader, setting the stage for him to replace retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has held the top Senate GOP leadership job for the past 18 years.

Thune has served as Senate Republican whip, the No. 2-ranking position in the Senate GOP leadership, since 2019, and largely managed operation of the Senate floor since McConnell suffered a concussion from a fall in 2023.

Thune is well-liked among his Senate Republican colleagues and his affable, humble approach to managing the conference has earned the trust and confidence of fellow GOP senators.

He announced his intention to run for leader shortly after McConnell said in February that he would retire from the GOP leadership at the end of this year.

His main competition for the past eight months of the race has been Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a formidable fundraiser, who served as Senate Republican whip from 2013 to 2019.

Cornyn tried to portray himself in the race as an agent of change, promising to give rank-and-file Republicans more opportunity to debate and amendment legislation on the Senate floor.

Just keeping it honest:

". . .The Wall Street Journal reported Thune met with Trump in March at Mar-a-Lago to defuse tension, and Thune told the Journal the pair has “an understanding, and it’s professional,” adding: “we’re going to need to work together for the good of the country.”

After being elected Wednesday, Thune released a statement saying he was “extremely honored” and that the “Republican team is united behind President Trump’s agenda.”

in the senate. McConnell's stooge. Well maybe he will do better job than McConnell. Time will tell.
Interesting, and slightly encouraging, since Thune was opposed by some trumples for not being MAGAist enough. Fortunately, it's a secret ballot vote so Don the Avenger has no way to know who to target for retribution.

Thune was challenged by two of his colleagues, former Republican Whip Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and MAGA loyalist Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who is still serving his first term in the Senate and who had, in recent weeks, become a favorite for the leadership position among online MAGA personalities, like Elon Musk and Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Will Thune roll over on the cabinet nominations demand to bypass confirmation. Stay thuned....get it.........thuned.

Why? If Putin is mentioned here, he if fair game.
