Not surprisingly, I see history differently. The Democratic Party when it became desegregationist, forced white people out of their party. They had to go somewhere. They went to the GOP under Goldwater's banner of "States Rights".

You have a naïve view of politics. Biden, like Trump and every candidate before him, picked a VP they thought would help them. Trump sought the evangelical vote and picked Pence. Trump sought the blue-collar vote and picked Vance. Were these the best candidates in the entire country or even the GOP? If Pence was the best, why didn't Trump pick him again?
