Studies have shown that government and private industries in the same fields pay about the same, but government benefits are like 40% better.

My last job I worked with two retired government workers. One worked for the county and the other for the city as a Cleveland police officer. Both retired at 50 and both collected government benefits while still working for our company full-time.

Bottom line is even if they work for that place until retirement age at 67, they are going to make a hell of a lot of money during those last 17 years that we in the private sector could never make.

First off if we want Social Security, it should be ran by the state, not the federal government. Two, as long as it is run by the federal government, people should have the option as to whether they want to be part of the system, or invest their own money under government guidelines. You would still get payroll deduction via employer matching, but instead of going to the government, it goes into a government allowable IRA you chose managed by a very reputable investment company.

As far as the debt is concerned, we need a consumption tax earmarked specifically to the deficit and debt. If you're rich you pay, if you're poor you pay, and anybody in between pays. We all pay, and that includes illegal activities like working under the table, illegal gambling, prostitution, drug sales. There would be no escaping it.

Currently the people that pay federal income tax is a little over 50% of our country. The rest of us get off scott free. The consumption tax will be ten cents on every dollar spent. If our deficit goes up, we increase it to twelve cents. If it goes up again, fourteen cents.

Now if we did it that way, every American would care about the debt, and we would vote people out of office that want to waste money like giving the Kennedy Center 70 million bucks, or the recent Pork bill that allocated 500 million dollars to the arts, humanities and libraries. That's how we could get a hold of all of this out of control spending.

Name one corporation that would rise their product sell price 7% to reflect the increase in the corporate tax rate. Corporations use public infrastructure and should pay for that cost.
