ICE had a raid at one of the poultry plants and all of the employees disappeared so they called the Unit (work release) I was was working at for help.

We were appalled at what they were paying....The Warden told them that they would have to pay real wages or there would be no help for them.

Finally they agreed to $12.00 an hour (fair at the time for that work) and they took 30 men each for two shifts....They even provided a bus to take them there and back.

All I know is that they were still working there after I retired when they closed the Unit. They just moved them all to another Unit. I heard damn near everyone on the Unit was working there.

But I do think that the "jobs that Americans won't do" more often refer to things like fruit & vegetable picking, roofing, framing & foundation work, hotel housekeeping and various other low-paying day labor positions.

So if we see those positions being regularly and easily filled by Americans, then yeah, the whole "jobs Americans won't do" thing would just be wrong.

We're definitely going to find out.

This will take a while to play out, and there's a shitload of variables. Businesses will automate as much as possible, they'll have to increase wages to attract new workers, supply chains may also affect costs, etc. etc.

It could be six to eight months before we have data that is aged enough to figure out.

It's an incredibly dynamic economy. There's a chance it will be able to absorb this. Plus it wouldn't be a surprise to see Trump TACO and reverse field on certain industries.
