So is banning books in public schools worse than promoting graphic ideas of fornication, oral sex, gay sex, transgenderism, et al. to children in schools?
First of all the OP is fake news.
There is no "pornography" in our school libraries.
Only material that some prudish, throwback to Victorian era (so called) "parents" object to.
Some of it is raw, brutal, realistic, poignant.
All of it is age appropriate....given the world these children are living in in the 21st century.
As a matter of fact, NONE of it is content that isn't readily available in most of these children's homes on basic cable TV service.
Or on their hand-held devices for that matter.
I challenge ANY of these parents who basically just want to make noise about a current political hot-button issue like "parental involvement" in their child's education, to actually DO something proactive if they don't want THEIR children exposed to certain young adult literature.....
Actually write a letter to the school requesting that THEIR CHILD (and only their child) not be allowed to access certain works of literature from the curriculum.
But leave other people's children the fu-k ALONE!
And it's only fair if parents want to be more "involved" in the school.....that schools can also be more involved in the student's hone life.
The schools need to know how these parents are monitoring the content these students are allowed to access away from school.
Movies?
TV?
Internet?
And these parents should be held to the exact SAME standards they are demanding of the schools.
And then, in, ten or fifteen years we can gather data to see which kids have grown up and are doing better in society.
The ones who were raised by uptight, stick-up-the-butt, pro-censorship, 21st century, religiously-regressive PRUDES.......
or the normal ones who were exposed to a stimulating, well-rounded, culturally and age appropriate curriculum.
Taking bets now.
