Zone1 Jesus Christ: The MYTH

Romans kept records as did local officials
There are no contemporaneous records which affirm the biblical Jesus
I asked you for your definition of contemporaneous.

Repeating your false claim isn’t an answer and it doesn’t make you persuasive.

I neither believe nor disbelieve in the existence of God but I have always assumed (rather strongly) that Jesus Christ existed as a mere prophet. I accepted that everything else about him is hog-wash. But now I am not so sure he existed at all.

Non-Christian historians like Pliny the Younger (c. 112 AD) and Tacitus (c. 116 AD) recorded that early Christians worshiped Jesus as a god, confirming that by the late 1st/early 2nd century, followers viewed him divinely, with Pliny noting hymns sung "to Christ, as to a god" and Tacitus mentioning "Christus" as the founder executed by Pilate, corroborating early Christian beliefs from outside sources.

Flavius Josephus did not explicitly record that Jesus was worshiped as God in a manner a Christian would use, but his writings do mention that Christians worshipped him as divine or as the Christ.

The original core of Josephus's text, as reconstructed by most modern scholars, likely stated the following facts about Jesus from a non-Christian, historical perspective:
  • He was a wise and virtuous teacher.
  • He performed startling or surprising deeds.
  • He gained a significant following among both Jews and Greeks.
  • He was condemned to the cross by Pontius Pilate at the instigation of leading Jewish men.
  • His followers did not abandon their devotion to him after his crucifixion.
  • They reported that he appeared to them alive again on the third day.
  • He was referred to as the Messiah/Christ by his followers.
Flavius Josephus, a prominent Jewish historian, lived from approximately A.D. 37 to around A.D. 100, making him a near-contemporary of Jesus and a crucial source for 1st-century Jewish history, particularly the Jewish-Roman War (66-73 CE). Born in Jerusalem, he was a priest who became a general, then surrendered to the Romans, adopted the family name "Flavius," and documented his era's events from Rome.

Key Dates & Details:
  • Born: c. 37 CE in Jerusalem.
  • Died: c. 100 CE, likely in Rome.
  • Major Works:

    The Jewish War
    ,
    Antiquities of the Jews
    ,
    Against Apion

    .
    • Significance: His writings provide invaluable eyewitness accounts for the history of Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity.

The historical evidence shows:
  1. The first Christians who witnessed the supernatural acts performed by Jesus - which included controlling matter, controlling nature, healing physical deformities, healing diseases, raising the dead and resurrecting himself from death - worshiped Jesus as God because they witnessed those miracles.
  2. Non-Christian historians recorded that the first Christians worshiped Jesus as God because he performed supernatural feats.
  3. 24,000 written manuscripts documented the supernatural feats Jesus performed and the first Christians witnessed.
  4. The Babylonian Talmud confirms Jewish religious leaders put Jesus to death for sorcery and for leading Israel into apostasy.
  5. There are no opposing accounts that document that Jesus did not perform any supernatural acts.
  6. There are no opposing accounts that argue Jesus wasn't put to death for performing sorcery and inciting Israel to apostasy.
  7. There are no opposing accounts which document Jesus wasn't resurrected.
  8. There are no opposing accounts that the first Christians didn't witness Jesus performing supernatural acts.
  9. There are no opposing accounts that document the first Christians didn't worship Jesus as God.
  10. There are no accounts that the miracles performed by Jesus were symbolic.
  11. The behaviors of the Apostles before and after the resurrection of Christ.
And then there is the change in the behavior of the apostles. After the crucifixion they are despondent, dejected, depressed, hiding. They've fled. Peter denied Jesus three times. Our leader has been put to death in the most degrading possible way. And they thought, "That's it! It's over!" But then history clearly shows that after Easter these same people that were once cowardly are now boldly proclaiming that Jesus is resurrected. In Acts 2, just a few weeks after the resurrection, says "Then Peter stood up, he raised his voice and addressed the crowd and said, 'God has raised this Jesus to life and we are all witnesses to this fact.'" We saw it. We know it's true.

The evidence for Jesus, by ancient standards, is very, very good.

Maybe....

Perhaps....

God did not send Jesus in the age of instant, eyewitness proof via internet and social media because, as the Bible says, "those with eyes to see, let him see...."

There aren't any records Im aware of. The deification of Jesus started 60 years after his death

of which ...

Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect of Judea (26–36 AD), famously ordered the crucifixion of Jesus and inscribed "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" in Latin, Greek, and Aramaic on the cross. He acted under pressure from local Jewish leaders to prevent an uprising, despite personally finding no guilt in Jesus.

jesus or the repudiation of judaism - and losing their heads to write about either.

In what way? I mean, in regards to what? Credibility? I think not.
Those especially familiar with Old Testament stories identify that the synoptic Gospels, especially those of Matthew and Luke, do so in such a way that the Old Testament is a foreshadowing of the New Testament; that the New Testament is an overlay of the Old Testament.

Next, many who practice New Testament teachings recognize graces it bestows. It is definitely a different way of living which has a way of lifting one away from worldly cares and disturbances. The yoke is easy, and the burden light. Conversely part of this life is The Way of the Cross, so not always fun and games, but it leads to resurrection into a new life.

The entire Bible tells the story of God in our midst, salvation/redemption at hand. My personal philosophy is often read in this forum: First, seek and find God--and then do Bible study.

The video says everything there is to say. Either you make your convictions based on the facts or (without facts) you make them on your wishes.

But it all comes down to whose facts you choose to believe. There's your video and then there are books such as Cold-Case Christianity.

A devout atheist, J. Warner Wallace couldn’t imagine believing in the Christian faith—until he applied the same step-by-step investigative process he utilized in his work as a homicide detective to the case for Christianity. In light of the ten common rules of evidence that he’d used to solve crimes throughout his career, Wallace realized he could no longer deny the truth of Jesus Christ. And his life was never the same.

A proven bestseller, Cold-Case Christianity shows:
  • How detective skills help us determine the historical reliability of the Bible
  • The role that evidence plays in the Christian definition of faith
  • Why the gospel eyewitness accounts demonstrate the historicity of Jesus
  • How rules of evidence help make the case for the proof of Christianity

Thank you for beginning this interesting discussion.
By this do you mean that near death experiencer Robert Marshall misunderstood what happened to him from May 19 to May 23, 2024?

Or do you think that Robert Marshall made up his near death experience along with his "Lazarus like" healing that could be termed a "resurrection?"

44 Hours In Heaven with Robert Marshall | 01/17/2026

"Upon entering the emergency room, the admission staff quickly observed the medical emergency: I was having difficulty breathing. I was immediately escorted to the care area of the ER and met with a member of the medical team who performed the perfunctory vital signs and symptom identification.

The hospital staff responded to my symptoms and ordered a new CT scan and a broader, all- encompassing blood test. The results showed I had “unstable/abnormal vital signs and life-threatening conditions,” as described in my medical record. I was at risk of my airway being blocked by the mass indicated on the CT scan and I needed emergency intubation with ventilator support. They moved me to a surgical suite, inserted the oral intubation tube, and admitted me to the ICU immediately."
Emergency Room Medical Note:

IMPRESSION:

Increased inflammatory change in the deep left neck soft tissues with worsening swelling of the epiglottis and moderate to severe airway narrowing. Additional inflammatory change involving the left submandibular fossa and submandibular gland as well as the left anterior belly of the digastric. Findings suggest worsening infectious pharyngitis/tonsillitis/epiglottitis. No drainable collection.

Left glossotonsillar sulcus fullness persists. Although superimposed infection is likely, evaluation for an underlying malignancy should be pursued. Direct visualization and tissue sampling may be warranted by ENT. Follow-up CT neck with contrast in one to 3 months is recommended to confirm resolution.

No cervical lymphadenopathy by size criteria.

Incidental severe spinal canal narrowing C5-6 due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament.

For the next two days, I rested comfortably, my body fighting the infection with the help of IV antibiotics, and the intubation tube that kept the mass away from my airway.

... that Jesus probably didn't even exist. I gave you fair WARNING prior to watching the video so you can only blame yourself for your dismay and frustration. :102:

All of it is debunked in the OP video.

But it all comes down to whose facts you choose to believe.
It grieves me to say that you missed everything of importance. It is gibberish to talk of "whose facts" are this or are the other. The video premise is all about a complete lack of facts. That is where your focus should be.

Everyone has dreams. I have. You have. We all have. We would also like to know what the meaning of life might be, and hope that whatever it is will be rewarded by what we expect our performance on earth is meant to be. So far, no one knows, and those claiming they do know are either bonkers or paid shills. I don't criticize those who find relief in snake oil. We all ought to have relief in one way or another. We deserve it. :)

There were many prophets in that era, one of whom may have been Jesus.

There are records from that era, none of which substantiate the Jesus in the Bible
If you use the same standards for all other historic accounts, the Bible is easily the most legit historical literature on the planet.

Non-believers just change their standards to dispute the Bible. But the bible passes any standards when looking at any ancient civilization with flying colors.

Robert Marshall's doctors and nurses can testify that he should have been brain dead due to how long his blood went without oxygen.

His doctors and nurses have admitted publicly that his healing was not something that they were taught that their medical technology could possibly have accomplished.

I am of the belief that all doctors and nurses should be interested in his exceptional case for many reasons. Not the least of which is the specific message that Jesus gave to his doctors and nurses that Jesus uses their skills and sincere efforts to assist in Jesus resurrecting dead people like Robert Marshall.
