In Western PA, Pittsburgh Area, there are people who are revered. Mostly sport figures. In hockey they are white because, come on there are few blacks. But in foot ball you would come up with names such as Lynn Swan, LC Greenwood, Joe Greene, John Stallworth, and most of all "the bus: Bettis. See any common trait?
In baseball, Bill Mazeroski might be number one but that was a long time ago. I am thinking number one is Roberto Clemente , and most of all Willie Stargell and now Andrew McCutchen. See any common traits?
Now is the above true because of their race or in-spite of their race? I am thinking it is because of exactly what MLK said, it is because of their character not the color of their skin. Because they were accomplished driven people.
Does that mean all people are not racist. Absolutely not. Are the vast majority of the people racist? Again absolutely not. But the shootings, riot and looting we saw in Dallas certainly tears down the good that men like Clemente showed.
