Hey ignoramus, here are no-Democrat-party-required principled reasons to support Ukraine:

1. Ukraine was lawlessly invaded by Russia under ludicrous pretenses. It is an American principle to support and promote adherence to international law and norms. Without them we are bound for never ending wars and instability. Russia's success in millitary invasion of Ukraine ensures more such evasions.

2. By signing Budapest Memorandum we've given our word to Ukraine, in exchange for them giving up their nuclear weapons that we will assist them in defence against agression. It's an American principle to keep our official word.

3. Ukraine is a young democracy, Russia is now a young fascist state. It's an American principle to advance and defend democracy where we can.

From everything we see Putin gives a lot less shit about damaging Russia, than he does about preserving his own neck.

"Kherson forever with Russia" were the slogans Russians hanged up in that city during occupation....apparently forever means a few months.

Putin agreeing to conceed to Ukranians a change to Russian constitution just maybe in his calculation a move that would show a weakness he can't afford for his regime to last much longer. It would show that Russia didn't achieve victory, but a compromise.

And by the way, much of the long term economic damage to Russia is already done and will not be undone untill well after Putin is gone. Even with some sort of peace compromise, it will take a long time for the west to ease sanctions and for Russia to regain enough trust of western bussness for them to resume long term investments.

He may agree on 'temporal borders' that shouldn't be changed by force. Or may not agree, indeed. In this case Ukraine is toast.
