I remember a Brit once telling me that what I experienced went beyond child abuse into torture. My thoughts were that Brits genuinely believe in the rule of law and civil liberties (though the Met police have a horrible track record which I assume they are trying to change).

Maybe there are some lines which cannot be crossed which makes Brits different than Americans. If I had to choose between "all speech is free" and "restrict speech to the point of being arrested", I would have to choose the former, even if it meant hearing some disgusting comments.

My personal opinion is that if someone encourages violence against someone, or, encouraged crimes against the vulnerable in particular, they should be charged with incitement. There should be a wide range of free speech in my world even as I personally am more diplomatic than vicious.

I've been to London about 4 times in my life. The last time I disliked London. My brother lives there, he loves the place. With any city in any country, if perception of that city is based on the media, you'll have a bad image of it. So on Tuesday, the co-creator of Father Ted, among numerous other critically acclaimed comedy programmes, was arrested by armed police for writing gender-critical posts on social media.

Linehan claims he was surrounded by five officers at Heathrow Airport after arriving from Arizona—where he announced he was heading last December because “freedom of speech is in bad shape at the moment” in the UK—and was detained over three tweets posted in April. One of them read:

I've been to every state bur Alaska and Hawaii. I see guns all the time. I live in an open carry state. Many wear sidearms. It's not unusual. I have several guns myself. Is it a myth that Europe is being overtaken by Islam. Was someone jailed for saying "I love bacon" or not.
